Greta Snaps: ‘Change Everything,’ ‘Climate Crisis’ About ‘Colonial, Racist, And Patriarchal Systems Of Oppression,’ Fossil Fuel ‘Literally’ Killing Us.

UPDATE: “And just like that, it never actually was about climate. It’s always about changing society into a Marxist utopia and every one of these movements prove it,” the Daily Wire’s Jeremy Frankel tweets

Reminder, back in July, OCA’s Chief of Staff admitted that the “Green New Deal” was about social change, not climate change.

Climate crisis, population crisis, energy crisis, every “crisis” announced by the left in the past five decades has always had the same solution: centralized power in Washington. What an odd coincidence.

Whistling past the graveyard

Real estate agent Mark Pruner has a cheery article in this week’s Greenwich Sentinel about the resurgence of back country properties. We all have our numbers, so I’ll just point out that the headline “Backcountry sales up 29%” loses some of its punch when followed by an admission that most of the increase was seen in the $1-$3 range; take a property that once sold for $9 million, drop its price below $3, and yes, a sale is recorded, but an improvement? Not so much.

But you can decide for yourself. In the meantime, Mark offers this stern warning:

Right now, backcountry is going through major changes, which are often wrenching changes for those that bought in the late digits. Buyers however are finding great bargains and interestingly some of the most distant houses along the New York borders are attracting people due to the resurgent night-life in Armonk and an excellent community theater in Bedford. In a couple of years some folks will be kicking themselves that they didn’t buy when they could.

There are indeed some real bargains north of the Merritt, but I suspect there will be more of them in the years to come, not fewer.

Pardoned turkey found dead

WASHINGTON, D.C.—A turkey recently pardoned by President Trump was found dead after claiming to have dirt on the Clintons, sources at the FBI confirmed today.

The official cause of death was suicide, though the bullet wounds were in the back of the turkey's head and the bird lacked opposable thumbs with which to operate a firearm.

Useful idiots

For all the professed outrage over Russian interference with our electoral process (no, real, there have been complaints about this — you can look it up), almost zero attention — except here — has been paid to the genuine disinformation campaign against fracking, brought to us by Gazprom/Putin.

POSTED ON NOVEMBER 29, 2019 BY STEVEN HAYWARD IN LOOSE ENDS

Speaking of Russian collusion, I wonder whether any of the usual people on the left will pick up on the evidence of the massive Russian propaganda campaign to hobble fracking for oil and natural gas in Britain and elsewhere? Here’s the heart of a new story by Matt Ridley in The Critic in the UK:

The Russians also lobbied behind the scenes against shale gas, worried about losing their grip on the world’s gas supplies. Unlike most conspiracy theories about Russian meddling in Western politics, this one is out there in plain sight. The head of Nato, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said the Russians, as part of a sophisticated disinformation operation, “engaged actively with so-called non-governmental organisations — environmental organisations working against shale gas — to maintain Europe’s dependence on imported Russian gas”.

The Centre for European Studies found that the Russian government has invested $95 million in NGOs campaigning against shale gas. Russia Today television ran endless anti-fracking stories, including one that “frackers are the moral equivalent of paedophiles”. The US Director of National Intelligence stated that “RT runs anti-fracking programming … reflective of the Russian Government’s concern about the impact of fracking and US natural gas production on the global energy market and the potential challenges to Gazprom’s profitability.” . .

We had the isolationist “America First” movement during the Molotov- Ribbentrop pact, directed from Moscow and promoted full-throatedly by Hollywood, which changed literally overnight to “Second Front Now” when Hitler breached the treaty and invaded the USSR, the anti-war Vietnam protests, and now, the anti-fracking campaign. It’s not that Cuomo, Jim Himes, and the entire motley slate of current Demorat presidential candidates and greens are knowingly doing Putin’s bidding, but it’s precisely their ignorance that makes them useful idiots.

From the land of the 30-hour workweek, a proposal to stop people from buying things

Let them pay retail(Did the fellow on the left choose to identify as a Lady, even back then?)

Let them pay retail

(Did the fellow on the left choose to identify as a Lady, even back then?)

Not content with reducing the peasant’s income by reducing the workweek to just six hours a day, French legislators now want to end “Black Friday” sales, all in the name of Mother Gaia.

PARIS — Dozens of French activists blocked an Amazon warehouse south of Paris in a Black Friday-inspired protest, amid increased opposition to the post-Thanksgiving sales phenomenon that has seen a group of French lawmakers push to ban it altogether.

Protesters from climate group Amis de la terre (Friends of the Earth) spread hay and old refrigerators and microwaves on the driveway leading to the warehouse in Bretigny-sur-Orge on Thursday. They held signs in front of the gates reading “Amazon: For the climate, for jobs, stop expansion, stop over-production!”

The activists were later dislodged by police.

More demonstrations are expected as Black Friday looms into view. French climate groups are planning “Block Friday” demonstrations Friday.

Their objections are garnering some support within France’s National Assembly. Some French lawmakers want to ban Black Friday, which has morphed into a global phenomenon even though it stems from a specific U.S. holiday: Thanksgiving Thursday.

A French legislative committee passed an amendment Monday that proposes prohibiting Black Friday since it causes “resource waste” and “overconsumption.”

The amendment, which was put forward by France’s former environment minister, Delphine Batho, will be debated next month. France’s e-commerce union has condemned it.

On Europe 1 radio Thursday, France’s ecological transition minister, Elisabeth Borne, criticized Black Friday for creating “traffic jams, pollution, and gas emissions.”

I would rather live with the French than subject myself to the concocted phenomenon of Black Friday — well, almost — but it’s alarming when politicians start defining “overconsumption”. There is a next stop, and it’s as predictable as it will be ugly.

The power to tax is the power to destroy

Who knew it wouldn’t float?

Who knew it wouldn’t float?

With tax revenues plummeting, California moves to hike pot tax

Predicted sales tax from pot sales is dismal, because a 50-80% tax burden is sending the navel-gazers back to the black market. Throw in the crushing weight of state and local regulations, and the nascent legal pot industry is collapsing just as it was getting started.

So in response to this dashing of their fiscal dreams, the legislature has moved to increase taxes and regulations — reality? What’s that?

Besides the joy these developments will bring to the Mexican cartels, there’s also the satisfaction of seeing, once again, that the socialists in our midst have been hiding a dark secret: they are unwilling to pay taxes to fund their paradise.

Wait’ll they discover that the $100 annual cost of stopping global warming, which is the figure polls show is the average expectation of voters, is actually going to amount to $10,000, or more. And imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth that will arise from the People’s Republic when they discover that confiscating all the billionaires’ money, Hollywood and Silicon Valley combined, won’t suffice, either.

It all reminds me of that old bit of wedding wisdom: “He got married and discovered true happiness, but by then, of course, it was too late”.

Happy Thanksgiving

Tofu turkey, kale/quinoa salad, and decaf coffee — it’s what for dinner!

As you sit down with your relatives and friends, remember the rule for conversation during the British officers’ mess, back in dueling days: officers were not to discuss “politics, religion, or women by name”.

Still good advice, especially if the woman is named Hillary or Elizabeth, although Alexandria Ocasio is probably safe as a source of light-hearted laughter for all.

Have a blessed day. I’m thankful for all of you, and your readership and participation over these years.

Nation’s progressives give thanks they have so much to be angry about this year

U.S.—In honor of Thanksgiving week, the nation's progressives have begun to give thanks that they have so much to be angry and offended about this year.

"Thank you, unspecified deity who may or may not exist, for giving us so much stuff to be outraged about," said Staci Walder, 42, of Portland, as she prepared her vegan, kale-wrapped turkey. "I'm truly humbled that you've blessed me with the Trump presidency, the patriarchy, the laws of economics, and biological facts to rage against."

"Every year, it's important to pause and recognize how much we have to be angry about."
