Funny, Gideon was speaking of something similar on his radio show today

Paid mourners weep as Bloomberg exits

NEW YORK, NY—Moments after Mike Bloomberg announced he was suspending his campaign, the Bloomberg campaign office was filled with inconsolable mourners, who were compensated handsomely.

"No, Mike, don't drop out -- please!" screamed one woman as she sobbed uncontrollably for the nice sum of $2,500. "We need you! America needs you! We love you, Mike!"

One mourner was seen rolling around on the ground screaming. Another was quieter and more reflective, as he was only paid $50. A high-ranking campaign staffer was reportedly paid over $50,000 to commit seppuku to restore honor to his name after failing the great Mike Bloomberg.

Commenting on the huge, overflowing crowd at David Ogilvy’d memorial service yesterday at Christ Church, Gid expressed a desire to have a similar crowd at his own funeral, but had the modesty to suggest that his mourners might have to be recruited from SAG. I’ll try to get the names of these youngsters, Gid; if they’ll work for scale, we might be able to arrange something suitable.

New price, old house

56 Old Church Road

56 Old Church Road

56 Old Church Road is back, now priced at $3.950 million, down from last year’s unsuccessful $4.350. This house, built in 1905, held great opportunity back when it was on the market in 2010-2015, and I had clients who loved it. Their house-buying plans changed at the last minute and these owners bought it, for $1.880, which was just about exactly where my own clients were.

The house needed everything then; it didn’t appear to have had much done with it since it was built, but that’s not the case now. I like what the new owners have done, a lot. Is $3.950 the right price? That’s for the market to say, but it’s a graceful home, right about in town, with (some) privacy. Someone besides myself is bound to appreciate it.

WHO Pony to the rescue

WHO Pony to the rescue

No hurt feelings. WHO says we mustn’t use words like “infect” when speaking of Kung Flu

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged people not to talk about transmitting the coronavirus because it 'assigns blame' to those who may be carrying it in a woke message for medical staff.

In its most recent advice for those concerned about the risks of the deadly virus, the group aimed to tackle the so-called 'social stigma' around the disease.

It highlighted why COVID-19 is causing stigma and discouraged people from adding countries or ethnicities when talking about transmission.

Posting its new guidance to social media WHO said: 'DO - talk about people "acquiring" or "contracting" #COVID19

'DON'T - talk about people "transmitting COVID-19", "infecting others" or "spreading the virus" as it implies intentional transmission and assigns blame.'

In its new online guide it also said that 'words matter' and added that some language may have a negative meaning for some which may 'fuel stigmatized attitudes'.

'They can perpetuate existing negative stereotypes or assumptions, strengthen false associations between the disease and other factors, create widespread fear, or dehumanise those who have the disease'.

So, you’re still going to get Kung Flu and die, but at least you’ll do so without blaming the Chinaman who sneezed in your face during your escape from Wuhan. You simply “acquired it” — from WHO knows where?

Related: Is it allowable to describe this woman as “selfish” without implying a negative meaning?

A hospital worker who became New Hampshire’s first coronavirus patient had been ordered to self-isolate — but went to a college’s business event instead, health officials have revealed.

The selfish Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center staffer showed symptoms after returning from a trip to Italy, and was told to stay home while awaiting the test result, which came back positive Monday, health officials said.

“The first patient, despite having been directed to self-isolate, attended an invitation-only private event on Friday,” the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) warned in a release.

Having defied the first directive, the hospital worker was “issued an official order of isolation” after officially testing positive on Monday, officials said.

A close colleague of his at the hospital then became the Granite State’s second confirmed case on Tuesday, their hospital confirmed.

Moral hazard

Come and get it

Come and get it

Once again, luxury cars have been stolen and once again they were left unlocked , with keys (or fobs, these days) in it.

Wikipedia’s got as useful a definition of moral hazard as any, I suppose:

In economicsmoral hazard occurs when someone increases their exposure to risk when insured, especially when a person takes more risks because someone else bears the cost of those risks.

A party makes a decision about how much risk to take, while another party bears the costs if things go badly, and the party isolated from risk behaves differently from how it would if it were fully exposed to the risk.

I wonder how many of these Greenwich “victims” made their money from designing and peddling sub-prime mortgages?

The harm caused by laziness and sloth of these car owners isn’t borne exclusively by the (former) car owners; insurance rates rise for everyone, and the treasure trove of unlocked, available luxury rides draws criminals to a neighborhood like a dead fish hung over a water bucket draws hornets. The owners get nice new cars while the rest of us pay. Bernie Sanders supporters?

Scalped!

Scalped!

Or that’s what the early returns are showing (live count here).

It’s disheartening to think that as Biden’s mind deteriorates in the coming months he could be in a state of full dementia by November and half the population will still vote for him. Trump Derangement Syndrome at its apex.

He pegged it in 1961: “I would rather be governed by the first 2,000 people in the telephone directory than by the Harvard University faculty.” William F. Buckley

Just 3 out of 260 members of Harvard faculty intend to vote for Trump

Out of 260 Harvard Arts and Sciences faculty member respondents, only three faculty members said they plan to vote for President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election, a survey of faculty shows.

survey conducted by the Harvard Crimson found that 44% of faculty surveyed said they would vote for former Harvard Law School professor Sen. Elizabeth Warren. (RELATED: Warren Says Her Education Secretary Must Meet Trans Child’s Approval)

Only 20% of the faculty surveyed said they would vote for 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, and only three out of 260 respondents said the would vote for Trump.

The poll also found that the majority of Harvard faculty identify as either very liberal or liberal: 38.4% of those surveyed identified as very liberal, 41.3% identified as liberal, 18.9% identified as moderate, and a mere 1.46% identified as conservative.

Even that 18.9% “moderate” label is suspect; what is considered moderate among these people is almost certainly unrecognizable as such by anyone with sense.
