Gee, I'm beginning to suspect that it was all about Trump, and not the kids

Asked by FWIW to explain what has changed, Kampall was happy to oblige. “The old camp under Orange Man was operated by capitalists”, she said, “while ours will be run by the new, compassionate Biden government, following strict government guidelines. To that end, we’ll be removing the basketball courts and ending all sports, education classes, and video games that those filthy profiteers were providing, and we’ll place these kids in lockdown, instead, just like the rest of the country. And just like their fellow Americans, they’ll be safe from Bat Wing Flu, and they’ll feel more secure. After their harrowing journey to this systemically racist country, they need a safe environment to recover — like crating a dog, you know? Dogs love it, South Canada/North Mexicans love it, and these kids will too.”

Hoist by her own pipeline petard

Last fall, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer moved to revoke the permit of Enbridge Inc.’s Line 5 project, which is the state’s main source of home heating fuels. Now, however, she’s temporarily suspended that order and instead declared a state of emergency amid a bitter cold snap in her state – and is warning that a spike in energy demand for home heating fuels like propane has put a strain on state-wide distribution.

[…]

Enbridge Inc.’s Line 5 pipeline delivers about 65 per cent of the propane consumed in the state’s upper peninsula, and 55 per cent of Michigan’s total supply.

Last November, Whitmer moved to revoke the pipeline’s permit, arguing the project – especially a section running beneath the Great Lakes through the Strait of Mackinac – presents an “unreasonable risk” to the state.

How stupid does a politician have to be to try to shut down their state’s main source of home heating fuel right before winter? They would have to be doubly stupid to do this in a state with real winters, like Michigan. As bad as the Texas energy disaster was, the freezing weather that triggered it only lasted about 10 days.

Whitmer moves to shut down Enbridge’s Line 5

Lansing — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is moving to shut down Line 5 by revoking and ending a 1953 easement that allows Enbridge Energy to run the dual pipeline through the Straits of Mackinac.

The announcement was welcomed Friday by environmental groups as protecting the Great Lakes and attacked by neighboring Ohio’s governor and energy groups as costing jobs and raising fuel and heating prices for consumers.

The Democratic governor said Friday she has filed a lawsuit seeking validation of the action in Ingham County Circuit Court. Enbridge must shut down the pipeline by May under the notice.

While the order would have allowed the pipeline to operate until spring, how were Michiganders supposed to heat their homes next winter? The section of Line 5 running through the Straits of Mackinac will eventually be replaced by pipelines running through The Great Lakes Tunnel; however this hasn’t even been fully permitted yet.

How safe is this pipeline? Here’s what the operator says;

Built in 1953 by the Bechtel Corporation to meet extraordinary design and construction standards, the Line 5 Straits of Mackinac crossing remains in excellent condition, and has never experienced a leak in more than 65 years of operation. The Line 5 crossing features an exceptional and incredibly durable enamel coating, and pipe walls that are three times as thick—a minimum of 0.812 inches—as those of a typical pipeline. What’s more, the Bechtel Corporation—renowned for the iconic Hoover Dam—designed and built Line 5 in an area of the Straits that would minimize potential corrosion due to lack of oxygen and the cold water temperature. This setting contributes to preserving the integrity of Line 5, which has enabled it to serve the region safely and reliably for more than six decades.

We’re working hard to keep it that way. We monitor the Line 5 Straits crossing 24/7, using both specially trained staff and sophisticated computer monitoring systems. We also carry out regular inspections of the line, using inline tools, expert divers, and remote operating vehicles (ROVs), going above and beyond regulatory requirements.

The proposed replacement pipeline has been tied up in the permitting process for years, and faces more years of litigation — Whitmer is fighting it, alongside the same “environmental” groups trying to shut down the original — and then more years to actually construct it if it’s eventually allowed.

The point here is not to get FWIW readers stirred up about Michigan’s coming disaster — that state’s voters put Whitmer into office, and probably deserve to get it, good and hard. But this kind of lunacy is occurring across the country; closing down existing pipelines and power plants, nuclear and gas, and banning new ones, barring construction of new electric transmission lines, with no replacements on the horizon. I’d call it lunacy to throw a state into the darkness and cold, except that I think that’s the exact goal of the leaders of this. Why?

Hell, under today's cultural appropriation rules, they shouldn't be allowed to play the sport at all

Blacks and wokes demand that the NBA logo be changed to depict a black player.

Cultural purists object:

“This game was invented and played by white people”, Coach Jim Naismith protested to FWIW, “and I’m damned if some other race can just take it and use it themselves. Why, that’d be like me wearing some friggin’ Hawaiian shirt, for God’s sake! They want to play a game, let ‘em go play intonga.” Mr. Naismith then ended the interview by blowing his whistle and calling his (white) players back to practice.

What happens intonga doesn’t necessarily have to stay intonga, so long as proper color lines are followed

Saturday, we learned that systemic racism has prevented blacks and transgenders from participating in rock climbing. Sunday we were told that systemic racism dating back to the 1700s is the cause of low participation of blacks in skating. Today, we’re told that blacks don’t ski for the same reason. Systemic racism, the universal solvent.

We'll make them all beggars 'cause they're easy to please

Here’s your new "green” job

Here’s your new "green” job

The myth (and phony math) of “Green” jobs

Dugan Flanakin:

During the 2020 election campaign, Joe Biden asserted that more than 3 million Americans are already “employed in the clean energy economy.” He then boasted that, “if executed strategically, our response to climate change can create more than 10 million well-paying jobs in the United States that will grow a stronger, more inclusive middle class … and not just in cities along the coasts.”

That would make Joe twice as boastful as his former boss, who promised the 2009 $787 billion stimulus package would create “over five million” green jobs. Four years later, the Brookings Institution reported that, “of the nearly 2.7 million ‘green jobs’ [the Obama-Biden Administration] identifies, most were bus drivers, sewage workers and other types of work that don’t fit the ‘green jobs of the future’” description.

Energy analyst David Blackmon later reported that Obama’s own Department of Labor acknowledged the initial failure to launch. DOL’s September 2011 report, “Recovery Act: Slow pace placing workers into jobs jeopardizes employment goals of the Green Jobs Program,” noted that only a third of the allocated funding had been spent; a fifth of the “degrees” and “certifications” went to people with a single day of training; and half of the “graduates” had five or fewer days of training. Just 2% of program participants held their jobs for at least six months.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics counted oil industry lobbyists as holding “green” jobs! The septic tank and portable toilet servicing industry had 33 times more “green” jobs than solar electric utilities. The BLS had to admit in a June 2012 report, “Green Technologies and Practices – August 2011,” that they could identify only 854,700 “green” jobs, including janitors and cleaners

What a sham! Shame on them for trying to con us.

David Kreutzer pointed out in a Heritage Foundation report that steel workers had the most “green” industrial jobs. Why? Most U.S. steel is recycled scrap, and some steel gets used in making wind turbines. The next largest groups were bus drivers, waste collectors and used-merchandise store employees – followed finally by engineering and architectural services. The much hated nuclear industry accounted for over 80% of the 44,000 “green” electric utility jobs. There were five times as many “green” jobs in social advocacy (environmentalist group lobbyists) as in renewable electric power.

Much more at the link, detailing the massive destruction of jobs coming our way. But the unstated goal of these communists is precisely the destruction of jobs, and putting as many Americans on the dole and dependent on government as possible.

Look, for instance, at the anti-gig law that will probably be enacted this year. Besides destroying Uber and Lyft and literally millions of jobs, it will also also crfreelance writers, musicians, actors; almost anyone who prefers to work on their own schedule in a non-corporate environment will be prohibited from doing so.

A population dependent on a central government for sustenance can be easily controlled: just threaten to cut off payments. That’s no accident

NBC TV airs deeply-antisemitic medical drama

Mainstream television is known for being awfully selective when it comes to who is and who isn’t the bad guy when using real-world examples. Republicans are always greedy, evil, and ignorant. Christians are often crazy nutjobs who have to be shown up by their more calm and rational secular peers, and poor people are always more virtuous and kind than apathetic and short-sighted rich people.

These are tropes that are so overused that they got boring, but now, thanks to NBC we’ve sailed right past boring and gone straight into bigoted and racist.

As you can see from the clip posted by Seffi Kogen, Head of Young Leadership at the American Jewish Committee, NBC’s show “Nurses” had a situation where a basketball-playing Jewish man had to have surgery on his legs in order to get better. This specific surgery requires grafting the tissue of a deceased person into the body of a living person.

The young Jewish man is accompanied by an older Jewish man (his father), and both are against the idea with the older Jewish man voicing his concern that the tissue put inside him could belong to anyone such as an “Arab or a woman.” A female Middle-Eastern nurse nearby, insulted, adds “or God forbid an Arab woman.”

They tell him that if he doesn’t do this then he’ll never play basketball again, to which the Jewish man responds that this is clearly God’s will and that he doesn’t consent.

Kogen makes it clear that in Jewish law, there is nothing that prohibits bone grafting in any way, no matter who the tissue comes from.

“The writers made it up, dressed their actors in Jew-face, and put random extremist nonsense in their mouths,” tweeted Kogen.

To my liberal Jewish friends (redundant, I know): these people disguise their hatred under the lie that they’re not antisemitic, just anti Israel, but that’s not true, as events will show.

Too bad there's no union for cancer patients

And Ned heard their union’s voice

Greenwich mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago April pushed back in the vaccine line.

Who was advanced ahead of her? Her 23-year-old niece, a teacher.

Ricci was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2020, and she said her immune system has been weakened after months of treatment. The cancer survivor had been looking to be vaccinated soon, perhaps in early March, according to information she received from the state, as well as a friend in the health-care field that indicated residents with comorbidities would be next in line for vaccines.

So when the latest guidelines came Monday out from the office of Gov. Ned Lamont that put residents ages 55 to 64 along with teachers and child-care workers at the the head of the line for vaccinations, she said, “I was in tears yesterday. ... All of a sudden, it was like they pulled the rug out from under me.”

As she struggled with cancer and its aftermath, Ricci had been very stringent about COVID safety, limiting her kids’ social interactions, which is not a pleasant task for a mom committed to her children’s happiness and development. She has also been wearing double masks, and asking her kids to double-mask as well when they’re out of the house.

“And I haven’t seen my parents since November of 2019,” she recalled, though thankfully both of them have been vaccinated.
