175 Riverside Avenue (for you old-timers, one of the Murphy houses built on the Meekers’ yard, across from Gilliam Lane) sold for $1,675,500 in July, came back on the market two weeks ago and went to multiple-bids. It is now reported under contract. Asking price was $1.850 million; where it ended up, we’ll see.

Built in a day out of cardboard and bubble gum, and laid on a concrete slab, these houses sold for $27,000 [Brother Anthony says $19,500, and I’ll happily defer to his superior memory] back in the mid-sixties. They’ve appreciated since.

What were they thinking?

29 Hillside Road has dropped its price from $8.295 million to $7.695. That’s an improvement, and I understand the owners’ reluctance to drop too far below the $9.8 million they paid for this place in 2006, especially considering the dollars they’ve lavished on it since, but … really?

This is a grand old Pre-Depresion house on almost 3-acres, and set back from the road for privacy, but the little cow path that ran in front of it back in 1928 has been widened considerably since then: the freaking high school is now directly across from 29’s driveway. And the high school was there in 2006, too — hence my question.

But the price does include the hillside zebra

There may be hope for Florida yet

He didn’t kill himself, he’s just resting at the Dalton School*

NYC “elite” now regret leaving New York for Florida and want to return. Bon voyage. You listening, Texas? California’s still there, waiting for your tax dollars and your values with open arms.

Those former New Yorkers of child bearing age say they regret the loss of NYC private schools, so let ‘em go back, quickly. The schools they miss so much are hotbeds of critical race-consciousness and anti-capitalist indoctrination curriculum, but the kids already hate their parents, so big deal. Wait’ll they discover that Muffy’s turned down by Harvard to make room for a deserving child of color from Florida (who, in all probability will come from the same elite private school and an equally-rich family). Tee hee.

Georgetown Law Professor Fired For Telling the Truth

Screen Shot 2021-03-11 at 3.11.16 PM.png

(Some) Black students score lower in exams than their peers — true, but you can’t say that!

A law professor at Georgetown University has been fired for pointing out that black students got lower grades in her classes. This was not due to racism. Black students get lower grades at selective colleges because they are admitted with lower grades and test scores than their non-black classmates, due to racial preferences in admissions at schools like Georgetown.

“I end up having this angst every semester that a lot of my lower ones are Blacks, happens almost every semester," the professor said in the video.

The conversation between two law professors at the Washington, D.C., school was filmed and posted to the online database Panopto, where students, who have been attending classes virtually because of the pandemic, can access the recordings. The video is no longer available on the platform.

[snip]

The professor was targeted simply for telling the truth, says Ted Frank, a lawyer who has won over $100 million in lawsuits, and several landmark court decisions: “The only thing reprehensible here is the statement of the Dean throwing his faculty member under the bus instead of telling students unpleasant truths. GU Law grading is blind and anonymous!” So the professor is not saying he engaged in any kind of racism. As Frank notes, “African-American law students good enough to get into Georgetown Law end up going to Harvard and Stanford instead” because of those universities’ racial preferences in admissions.” As a result, “Georgetown Law has to”lower standards for black applicants, and “dive deeper into the pool to get a racially balanced class.” As a result of these lower standards for black and non-black students, “African-Americans attending Georgetown Law are less qualified than average students, and perform worse in school.”

As Frank notes, it is utterly predictable that black students will get lower grades at Georgetown, given their lower grades and standardized test scores: “Georgetown uses LSATs in admissions for a reason: they do a good job of predicting who will do well in law school. What do you expect will happen if you mix students with LSATs in the 150s with students with LSATs a standard deviation higher?”

LSAT scores are not a perfect predictor of law school success — ask me about my own score, and whether I ended up in the top 0.01 % of my class – but they do test the ability to think logically and clearly, add and subtract, and even write a bit. Not all that long ago, those were critical skills for lawyers.

41 Angus Lane, $2.095.

Interesting, at least as a gauge of market conditions. It was put up for sale in 2019 @ same price, didn’t sell, and then returned to the market in July 2020, also at $2.095, dropped to $1.990 by September before being rented out.. This time, it took just 15 days to find a buyer. Why, oh why, did it take the stager so long to follow my advice?

59-year old gazillionaire involved with 26-year-old now thinks she was only in it for the money

“Cloobeck, the founder and former CEO of Diamond Resorts International as well as a prominent Democratic donor, accused the much-younger Gurzanski of tricking him into believing she was a legitimate fashion model,” The Mail writes.

He first met Gurzanski through a mutual friend in the summer of 2020, soon after splitting with his wife of 22 years, and the two “seemed to hit it off immediately,” court filings stated. The millionaire claims he spent lavishly on his new girlfriend, buying expensive jewellery, paying for parties, taking trips on his private jet as well as paying her lease for a luxury apartment in upmarket Beverly Hills.

According to The Daily Star, Cloobeck claims he now believes Gurzanski was just using him for his money.

Meh. The man made his money peddling timeshares; one good con artist deserves another.

Lamont’s budget will borrow $220 million to pay off older debt

Connecticut will receive $4.2 billion under the porkbarrel bill passed by congress today. “But that’s earmarked for our union friends”, Lamont told FWIW, “the cupboard is bare, there’s not a penny to be spared”.

You already knew this, but just a reminder anyway: we are being ruled by fools and charlatans

Fauci admits “there is no science” supporting his rule, “so I just pulled that out of my ass”.

Jim Treacher:

“When you don’t have the data and you don’t have the actual evidence, then you’ve got to make a judgment call.”

What? I need to look at that again:

“When you don’t have the data and you don’t have the actual evidence, then you’ve got to make a judgment call.”

Yes, Anthony Fauci actually said that. On national TV. Well, on CNN, at least.

Isn’t that great? Hey now, don’t worry about all those pesky numbers and all that confusing technical jargon. Just trust the guy who knows what he’s talking about because he says he knows what he’s talking about. Who do you think you are, anyway? Are you a scientist? No? Then shut up and do as you’re told.

This isn’t science. This is religion. [emphasis added] Fauci has styled himself as the Pope of COVID, and his enablers in the media have been more than happy to confer him with papal infallibility. He’s established himself as the only true mediator between the unwashed masses and God Science. And whenever he says something that doesn’t make sense or he contradicts himself, well, don’t you fret your little head about it. You just need to have faith. Pope Anthony the First would never lie to you.
