4 Fairgreen Lane, in Old Greenwich’s Shorelands, is new to the market today and priced at $6.995 million. It’s certainly a nice house: the owners couldn’t sell the original 1925, 2,500 sq. version at $2.149 in 2012, so they completely rebuilt it in 2013, while expanding it to 6,392 sq. ft. My doubts arise only because a non-waterfront house in Shorelands on a 1/3 acre lot might meet buyer resistance at $7 million.

But who (WHO?) knows?

Biden’s new SEC Chairman vows to crack down on amateurs playing with stocks

Wall Street’s new top cop said he’s fixing his gaze on the rising use of social-media apps for stock trading — and a clampdown may be coming.

In his first appearance on Capitol Hill since he took the helm of the SEC last month Gensler raised concerns that apps which “gamify” trading — a criticism that has been leveled at Robinhood, in particular — could lure rookie investors into bad situations.

“The SEC must remain attuned to rapidly changing technologies with an eye to freshening up our rules,” Gensler told lawmakers. “If we don’t address this now, the investing public, those saving for retirement, and education may shoulder the burden later.”

Asked about the rising popularity of cryptocurrencies including bitcoin, Gensler said he believes Congress should examine a “regulatory framework” for crypto exchanges in order to protect investors and that the “crypto-asset market is one that could benefit from greater investor protection.”

It’s pretty rich for Mr. Gensler and his pals to worry about retail ‘investors” on Wall Street, when high-frequency traders control at least half the market, and professional ‘investment advisors” the other. “Value investing” seems as rare these days as investment advisors outperforming index funds.

So who’s “gamifying” Wall Street? Everyone; the pros just don’t want anyone else screwing up their fun.

As for cryptocurrencies, I’ve been astonished that the government has let it go on so long: they have the printing press to invent money backed by nothing, and damned if they’ll someone else join the game of illusion.

Theater of the Absurd

can you see me now?

can you see me now?

Jake Tapper asks White House Chief of COVID Prevarication why Slo-Joe is still wearing (at least one) mask and gets a full load of bullshit dumped on his head. He deserves that; turnabout is fair play, but American citizens, at least those who didn’t vote for this, don’t.

White House COVID-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients was asked Sunday to explain why President Biden still wears a mask during press briefings despite being fully vaccinated and standing in a room with fully vaccinated journalists.

"Is it really necessary for a fully vaccinated person to wear a mask at a limited indoor gathering if everyone there is vaccinated?" CNN host Jake Tapper asked Zients during an interview on "State of the Union."

"Well, the CDC [U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] has given guidance that when you’re with family and friends that are vaccinated in small groups you don’t need a mask," Zients said. But Tapper pressed, "So why does President Biden in a room full of vaccinated journalists, everybody in that room vaccinated, why does he need to wear a mask?"

"The president is going to continue to follow the CDC guidance," Zients continued. [How can you “continue” what you aren’t doing?]"It's just a matter of a few weeks ago when an all states made vaccines eligible for all Americans. So there still are Americans who want to get vaccinated, who may just have their first shot and are waiting for their second shot or who haven't had an opportunity to get their first shot." [evasion — answer the question, fella; this wasn’t it]

"We all want to get back to a normal lifestyle. I think we're on the path to do that. But stay disciplined and let's take advantage of the new privileges [privilege, or fundamental rights of free Americans?] of being vaccinated and not wearing a mask outdoors, for example, unless you're in a crowded place," Zients said. "As we all move toward that 70 percent goal, there'll be more and more advantages to being vaccinated. And if you're not vaccinated, you're not protected." [Really? over 100,000,000 have been infected by COVID — is there really no natural immunity?]

Tapper still pressed the issue as to why Biden would wear a mask in a room of fully vaccinated people.

"I think one of the reasons why journalists are annoyingly harping on this ... and some health experts are ... is because there is a light at the end of the tunnel and President Biden being able to take off his mask in a room full of journalists and White House staffers, all of whom are fully vaccinated, is a demonstration that the vaccines work," Tapper offered. "You and I are both vaccinated and you and I are in a room together talking. And I have no fear that I'm going to get the virus from you and I assume vice versa. And I think the concern is that by being overly cautious, the signal is going out to the public that there isn't necessarily light at the end of the tunnel.

To that, Zients responded, "Everyone is tired, and wearing a mask is, can be a pain, but we're getting there and the light at the end of the tunnel is brighter and brighter. Let's keep up our guard. Let's follow the CDC guidance. And the CDC guidance across time will allow vaccinated people more and more privileges [there’s that word again] to take off that mask."

We won’t make it to next year’s Birthing Person Day without a revolution

And the tumbrels will show up just about here

And the tumbrels will show up just about here

Dr. Faust says that by next Mother’s Day we’ll be “almost back to normal – maybe”

STEPHANOPOULOS: Give everyone a sense of what the country is going to look like next Mother’s Day.

FAUCI: Well, George, I hope that next Mother’s Day, we’re going to see a dramatic difference than what we’re seeing right now. I believe that we will be about as close to back to normal as we can. And there’s some conditions to that, George.

We’ve got to make sure that we get the overwhelming proportion of the population vaccinated. When that happens, the virus doesn’t really have any place to go. There aren’t a lot of vulnerable people around. And where there are not a lot of vulnerable people around, you’re not going to see a surge. You’re not going to see the kinds of numbers we see now.

Circling Back: Falucchi now says masks may become “seasonal”. He claims, today, that they’d be optional during flu season; we’ve seen how that turned out.
