The professor offers a sane approach to dealing with robbers:

LIFE IN THE BLUE ZONES:  Crime city: Philadelphia police just published instructional guide on how to survive carjackings.

You need a whole booklet for this? I mean, just ask the Dalai Lama:

UPDATE: In Philadelphia, legally armed drivers have already shot would-be highjackers 3X this year. As more criminals start using guns, we’ll see that they aren’t the only ones who have them, and justice will start being dished out immediately, rather than never.

The laws that forbid using deadly force to protect “mere” property are based on a societal agreement that citizens will back down and let the police handle things. That agreement is breaking down, as the police disappear, and the courts stop enforcing the laws. Look for more street justice, at least in part because citizens can no longer safely assume that their robbers are unarmed and not a physical threat to their lives.

Maybe we should start emulating the police and begin carrying “throw-down” guns.
