And the Republic dies, little by little
/Not just Biden, of course; but becoming ever more frequent
Thwarted by the legislative branch’s refusal to pass a law on police procedure, Biden will do it by executive order. The Constitution established a form of government whereby a popularly elected House of Representatives drafted laws, a Senate acted as a block against legislation unduly influenced by the passions of the day, the Executive saw to the execution of those laws passed by the Senate, and the Judicial ranch reviewed the law and its enforcement, looking for violations of the Constitution (after Chief Justice John Marshall invented the concept of Judicial Review in 1803).
Begining in 1913 with the passage of the 17th Amendment, which allowed for the direct election of senators, and slowly accelerating since, Congress has ceded much of its authority to the Executive Branch and its unelected, administrative bureaucrats. Not content with just that consolidation of power, we’re seeing demands to convert the country from a republic to a democracy by abolishing the Electoral College.
So it goes.
