Only the Democrats and Trump himself believe he's still relevant

Trump calls for the impeachment of McConnell, suggests h;s being blackmailed

Former President Donald Trump called for the impeachment of nemesis Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) Thursday, just days ahead of a midterm election in which McConnell could take the reins of the upper chamber.

While theorizing that McConnell could buck the GOP and collude with the Democrats to "blow the debt ceiling up," Trump insinuated that the Democrats might “have something on him” and argued that impeachment could be a remedy if McConnell betrays the party.

Trump's comments were made around the same time as news emerged that DeSantis had raised more money since January of last year than himself or President Joe Biden. News of DeSantis's impressive haul was confirmed by Open Secrets, which analyzed the fundraising efforts of the top 20 presidential contenders. DeSantis raised $177.4 million for his reelection campaign as of Sept. 9, a national record for gubernatorial campaigns.

I don’t know anyone on my end of the political spectrum who wouldn’t like to see McConnell go, if he were replaced by a sounder Republican but for now, he’s what we have, and Trump calling for his impeachment is just the egotistical bellowing of a has-been.

And going after DeSantis is just more of the same. I spent the past week in a hunting cabin with three fellow Trump supporters; three of us are ready for someone other than Trump to run in 2024 while the fourth, and youngest of us, remains a do-or-die Trumper. That’s about the split that I sense is the mood of the 2020 Trump voters. The Democrats, and Trump, don’t seem to get it: the 2020 election is behind us, and no one ever cared about the 600 people who rioted onJanuary 6 (certainly not Trump: so far as I know, he hasn’t spoken out once to decry the horrendous jail conditions and prison sentences of those demonstrators). I’m inclined to let The Orange Man and the Democrat hand-wringers go at it for the next two years, while the rest of the country moves on.
