A reminder: You can't make this stuff up; if you try, reality will catch up with you

The Babylon Bee discusses the issue, using the Onion and the Simpsons as examples. (One of) my own experiences with this was when I wrote a book back in 2006 or so that included a scene of an American Indian holding a press conference at Tod’s Point with a tall black man standing on a rock behind him pantomiming fake sign language. A few years later, Obama spoke in South Africa with a large black man behind him pantomiming fake sign language. No rock, but close enough.

Basically, satire is simply observing what’s going on around us and stretching it to its logical, or illogical extreme. And then the idiots go there.
