Land contract in Rock Ridge

15 Zaccheus Mead Lane, $2.2 million, 15 days on the market (it was previously offered at $1.995 in 2021-2022 but no soap). There’s an 1850 house on the property, but it won’t last: the lot is just 0.94 of an acre in the R-2 zone, but according to the listing, a 6,000 sq. ft. house (with 2,000 ft of that buried underground, so … 4,000) can be built on the footprint of the existing structure. Gentlemen, start your engines.

Definitely on my calendar

Although I’d heard of Joe Rogan, I’d never listened to his show before he interviewed Trump last week. It was fabulous, because Rogan is a great interviewer, and managed to calm Trump down enough for them to engage in an in-depth discussion of almost everything. Rogan made it a conversation, rather than a mere interview, and, taking it in three chunks, I found the entire three hours fascinating. Trump came across as the man I saw at one of his rallies back in 2015: funny, smart, and far nicer than his mean tweets would lead one to believe. Rogan himself reminds me of Bill Buckley and Dick Cavett, also excellent conversationalists, but Rogan has three hours to use, and he uses them effectively.

J.D. Vance and Joe Rogan? I won’t miss it.

Here’s the full Trump interview, in case you didn’t see it.

What would we do without 27-year-old Gen-Z Democrat "strategists"?

Not The Bee:

It's a difficult thing to achieve, but 27-year-old "Democrat Party strategist" Ally Sammarco might have just won the award for spit-take of the year:

Here’s some of that intellectual, nuanced manner on display now:

Well, you don't want to just go around yelling "hate crime" whenever a Muslim attacks a Jew, right? We like to reserve the term for white nationalist fascist Trump supporters"

Chicago Police Don’t Charge Suspect With Hate Crime After He Shot Jewish Man and Reportedly Yelled 'Allahu Akbar’

‘We have to find out the motive for the crime,’ Chicago police superintendent Larry Snelling said

A 22-year-old man was charged with over a dozen felonies Monday after shooting a Jewish man and firing at first responders in Chicago over the weekend, according to the Chicago Police Department. The suspect, Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, reportedly yelled "Allahu Akbar" during the firefight but was not charged with a hate crime.

"The first thing is we have to find out who’s committing the crime. Secondly, we have to find out the motive for the crime," Chicago police superintendent Larry Snelling said during a press conference Monday afternoon. "We don’t just go in and assume that everything is a hate crime, but what we don’t do is rule out the possibility that it could be."

Abdallahi approached a 39-year-old man from behind Saturday morning and, without saying anything, fired several rounds, striking him in the shoulder, according to police.

The victim was an Orthodox Jew on his way to a nearby synagogue, Jewish United Fund of Chicago president Lonnie Nasatir told the Jewish News Syndicate. Nasatir said the neighborhood where the victim was shot has one of the city’s largest Orthodox Jewish populations.

Abdallahi shot at officers and paramedics when they responded to the scene less than 30 minutes later. Security footage shows the suspect exiting an alley and firing a single round. He reportedly yelled "Allahu Akbar" and then continued to fire. Police also told the Jewish United Front that Abdallahi shouted "Allahu Akbar," a local NBC affiliate reported.

Couldn't they easily recruit replacements from our college campuses? (But don’t forget to pack the pagers)

Too Good to Check: Hezbollah Collapsing As Desertions Skyrocket

Arabic media report mass Hezbollah desertions in the face of a determined IDF ground campaign, and nearly no effective communications between command and field units:

After over a year of launching aerial attacks against northern Israel, Hezbollah has reportedly begun to crack as the Iran-backed terror group has experienced a wave of desertions, sources told the Arabic independent online newspaper Elaph in a report published Sunday. ...

Those defecting, according to the source, are not reporting when summoned by senior terrorists and not waiting in their assigned locations. Other terrorists have reportedly fled to Syrian territory with their families, attempting to avoid any confrontation with Israel at close range. ...

As a result of combatants abandoning their posts, Hezbollah is now reportedly struggling to communicate with its men on the ground. There are also fears that the defections, now mainly a phenomenon in southern Lebanon, will spread to terrorists throughout the country, the source claimed.

The confrontations on the southern border and escape by Hezbollah combatants have reportedly left the group struggling to recruit new terrorists to fuel its fight against Israel.

"I’m gonna stop you right here — it was only a handful of water, and they threw it on just one woman." Martha Raddatz, ABC News

Tren de Aragua Members in Aurora Throw Boiling Water on Pregnant Woman

[The gang members] have tortured people into paying "rent," including a pregnant woman, whom they threw boiling water at, the stress sending her into labor two weeks early:

At the end of August, Gov. Polis's office said that "according to police intelligence, this purported invasion is largely a feature of Danielle Jurinsky’s (a member of Aurora's City Council) imagination."

Then more recently in October, ABC's Martha Raddatz tried to tell former President Donald Trump's running mate, Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), that this issue is "exaggerated."

"I'm gonna stop you. The incidents were limited to a handful of apartment conflicts apartment complexes, and the mayor said our dedicated police officers have acted on those concerns. A handful of problems," said Raddatz.

South Portland to Spend $1 million+ Helping Migrants Pay Rent, Buy Food — While Recommending Seniors Reverse Mortgage Homes to Pay Taxes

While the mayor of South Portland recently recommended that elderly residents reverse mortgage their homes to handle a growing property tax burden, the City Council approved over $1 million in their fiscal year 2025 (FY25) budget to be spent on assisting migrants in the city pay for housing and buy food.

Those seniors have also taken a back seat to higher priorities from the South Portland City Council, which has, in recent years, written into the city budget that addressing the climate crisis and promoting “equity” are top goals.

South Portland Mayor Misha Pride’s comments — which have since sparked massive backlash on social media — came amid discussion of a proposal to allocate an additional $100,000 to the city’s Senior Property Tax Relief Fund at an August City Council meeting.

“I just sort of throw this out there because I’ve also been thinking a lot about how especially those with fixed incomes can deal with this, it is kind of a last resort measure, but seeing as our property values are so high, seniors may want to consider a reverse mortgage,” Pride said.

“I know it’s an ugly word,” he admitted, “but there are — I’m just saying, I know it’s horrible, but it’s sort of a last resort.”

A reverse mortgage is a type of loan that allows homeowners to borrow against the equity in their home. Over time, it may put their homeownership at risk or leave little equity for senior homeowners to pass on to heirs.

The proposed supplement to the relief fund was aimed at alleviating the strain that rising property taxes, caused largely by the city’s most recent revaluation and a budget increase, have put on local homeowners — particularly seniors living on a fixed income.

The problem is not unique to South Portland, as property taxes are increasing massively all across Maine as the result of increased spending and inflation-driven increases in the nominal dollar value of property.

However, at the same time South Portland residents are feeling squeezed by property tax hikes, the City Council approved a budget of more than $1.8 million for their municipal welfare program that the city specifically states will be going towards “asylum seekers” — noncitizen migrants living in the U.S. who have pending asylum claims.
