A garbage truck from an Upper Peninsula company will be Michigan’s contribution to President Donald J. Trump’s inaugural parade next week.
A source with the inaugural committee tells The Midwesterner a truck from Loadmaster, a firm based in Dickinson County, population 25,937, will be one of 39 entries in the parade that runs down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House.
The company provided the truck that sparked one of the most viral moments during the 2024 campaign: when a safety vest-wearing Trump climbed into the cabin for a spin around a Green Bay, Wisc. airport tarmac.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass previously told The New York Times in 2021 that she didn't plan to travel internationally when elected mayor of the city, as reported by the outlet on Sunday.
Bass said in 2021 that should she win her election, "not only would I of course live here, but I also would not travel internationally — the only places I would go would be D.C., Sacramento, San Francisco and New York, in relation to L.A," the Times reported.
The Times reported, "That pledge has been spectacularly broken."
Bass has traveled internationally four times since she became mayor, the Times reported, once to Mexico and three times to Paris for the Olympics.
And now, of course, Ghana. Can’t keep a good woman down.
98 Hunting Ridge Road sold for a modest premium last March, $2.3 million on a $2.250 million ask. Now those lucky winners are hoping that lightning will strike twice, and they’ve put the property back up for sale, untouched, for $2.965. Meh — you don’t ask, the answer is always no.
200 Clapboard Ridge Road, $14.5 million. 1934 construction, 8.2 acres (two lots), 10,000 sq.ft. plus 2,000 sq. ft. walkout basement, started at $17 million in September ‘21.

The man with a blowtorch who was arrested last week in the Los Angeles area, where a number of wildfires have wreaked havoc over the past several days, is an illegal immigrant from Mexico, according to a new report.
Fox News reporter Bill Melugin shared new details in a post to X on Sunday evening, noting that he got his information from insiders from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Bill Melugin:
NEW: Per ICE sources, the man seen in a viral video being subdued by residents & arrested by police w/ a blowtorch near the #KennethFire in West Hills is an illegal alien from Mexico named Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva. He is in custody on a probation violation & has NOT been charged w/ arson. I'm told ICE will place a detainer request on him with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, but they do not expect it to be honored due to California's Sanctuary State law. I'm told Sierra-Leyva will have a court appearance tomorrow. Again - he has not been charged w/ arson and is in custody only on a probation violation at the moment, as multiple agencies have been interviewing him.

Out with the fact-checkers that conservatives deride. In with more permissive rules for posting conservative opinions.
Their empire is crumbling, and they hate it.
And then there’s this moron, bewailing the loss of Twitter as a propaganda tool:
Remembering those bygone days when you could turn to Twitter for fast and trustworthy information on a rapidly developing story like a catastrophic wildfire.

I spent $17,000 having my ribs removed for a smaller waist — now I’m having them made into a crown https://t.co/LrkBmhzexA pic.twitter.com/L4hJdOZ086

Some commenters were … dubious:
I’m so old, I remember a time when a surgeon, faced with an obviously mentally ill patient, would have declined to amputate a healthy limb or, in a case such as this, six ribs, and referred him to psychiatric care instead. Now, doctors cheerfully castrate, chop, and chemically poison their patients while applauding their own compassion and wokeness.
That’s progress.
(Those readers who might wish to explore this option for their own children may want to proceed cautiously.)
The surgery removes the 12th, 11th and, on rare occasions, the 10th rib to create a slimmer waist. The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic with an incision made in the back. Recovery time can be up to six months and patients are left with a long scar.
Although the 12th rib is known as a “floating” rib as it does not extend to the back, the 11th and 10th ribs protect internal organs from the front and back so the removal of these risks damage to the kidneys, gall bladder and even the stomach.
The procedure is now rarely performed by certified plastic surgeons other than in cases such as bone cancer and developmental growth problems where a section of rib is removed to obtain bone for a bone graft. Many have argued that the waist to hip ratio is determined by the distribution of fat rather than the size of the rib cage and that exercises such as walking and running are a much safer alternative to rib removal to reduce the waist size.
“The removal of ribs is a permanent procedure. Ribs do not grow back and cannot be replaced. Even under the care of a certified and experienced surgeon, it is a dangerous procedure and the risks of complications are high. …. The healthy, non-surgical alternatives of exercise and diet to achieve a slimmer waist should be actively promoted to anyone considering such an extreme procedure.”
