Obama (Self) Care

Fox News: When the Obama Foundation snagged a sweetheart deal to build its beleaguered Obama Presidential Center on a Chicago public park, it pledged to create a $470 million reserve fund to spare taxpayers should the project ever go belly up.

But new tax filings show the foundation has only deposited $1 million into the fund and has not added to it in years, with critics saying the empty promise could potentially leave Chicagoans on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars.

Wondering where the money is going, aside from the Obama Mansion Expansion Program? Wonder no longer:

Obama Library Funds Are Secretly Flowing to Dark Money Networks

Barack Obama’s long-promised presidential library is shaping up to be just as corrupt as his administration. You probably haven’t heard much about this in the media, but recent tax filings reveal that money donated to the Obama Foundation—supposedly earmarked for his sprawling “presidential center” in Chicago—is quietly being redirected to one of the left’s most notorious dark money groups: the Tides Foundation.

The numbers tell the story. In 2022 and 2023, the Obama Foundation handed over $2 million to Tides, a group best known for serving as a clearinghouse for radical left-wing causes and for shielding donor identities. It should come as no surprise that George Soros heavily backs Tides, and Tides is directly tied to groups organizing anti-Israel protests. That includes demonstrations against the Jewish state in the aftermath of the Oct. 7 Hamas atrocities. In other words, donations made in the name of funding a presidential library are now helping bankroll organizations promoting antisemitic activism under the guise of social justice.

….

In addition to sending donations to Tides, the Obama Foundation has sent more than $3 million in 2022 and 2023 in grants to Gofundme.org for undisclosed “grassroots leaders to empower girls through education,” according to the group’s filings.

Meanwhile, the foundation admitted it has so far spent more than $615 million building the Obama Presidential Center, which is scheduled to open in spring 2026, according to its website.

The group, which received just $129,320 in donations in 2022, spent more than $27 million on salaries.

The foundation’s CEO, Emeka Jarrett, earned over $750,000 last year. The executive vice president, Rob Cohen, pocketed nearly $650,000, and also maintains ties to the Pritzker Realty Group.

This oughta be fun

Ugly for the transantifas, maybe, but entertaining for the rest of us. My guess? Few, if any of these people will show up, despite their call for reinforcements from Seattle and Los Angeles, and those that do won’t dare to assault armed federal troops who, unlike the local cops won’t be handcuffed by Portland’s administration. But we can always hope.

Following President Trump's announced intention to surge federal forces into Portland, Oregon, where riots are held daily outside Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters, the useful idiots of Anti Profa are planning a "direct action" for Sunday, September 28th.

…. A direct action has been planned for Sept. 28 at the Portland ICE facility after Trump issued a statement that he plans to send in troops to protect the federal property. Antifa and communists have said they refuse to back down and plan to escalate their rioting. They have called… pic.twitter.com/bsh4CW4BC

Antifa was recently designated as a domestic terrorist group by President Trump, and they richly deserve it. The question is this: How in the world do the actions Antifa claims to be planning not constitute an insurrection under the Insurrection Act of 1807? 10 U.S. Code § 252 - Use of militia and armed forces to enforce Federal authority, would seem to apply here. That section states:

Whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States, make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, he may call into Federal service such of the militia of any State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to enforce those laws or to suppress the rebellion.

That would appear to state that the President of the United States would, in the event Antifa does what they claim they want to do, have the legal recourse to unleash the full might of United States federal forces to restore order. To point out that this wouldn't end well for Antifa is the grossest of understatements. What's a trifle baffling is that this legal recourse hasn't been invoked before now.

Britannica defines an insurrection as:

...an organized and usually violent act of revolt or rebellion against an established government or governing authority of a nation-state or other political entity by a group of its citizens or subjects; also, any act of engaging in such a revolt.

That's precisely what Antifa is doing. It was even more egregious in the summer of 2020, when not only did rioting useful idiots cause several deaths and a billion or so dollars in property damage, but some actually seized a portion of the city of Seattle, installed an armed thug as the ruler of the area, and expelled civil authorities. Granted, they were so incompetent that they couldn't feed themselves, and their rebellion collapsed, but that doesn't make the crime any less.

Sunday will tell the tale. Will it be a violent conflict? Or a fizzle?

Fingers crossed.

You Won't Believe What Serena Williams Finds Racist: Decorative Cotton Branches

David Strom, HotAir

Serena Williams is, as we all know, one of the most celebrated people in the world and has accumulated somewhere north of $300 million by hitting a yellow ball around on a court well and being so admired that corporations throw money at her to say nice things about them.

She may not ever have been the best tennis player in the world--even she admits that any guy in the top 400 tennis players could smoke her on the court--but she definitely was at the top of the women's game.

She is literally one of the wealthiest people on earth because so many people admire her. In other words, she is a poster child for the opposite of "oppressed." If she is oppressed, I must be in a concentration camp.

It's (not only) that they're historical illiterates; they've been kept in infancy and taught to depend on others to provide their needs throughout their years in our modern indoctrination system

About half of college students say socialism is better than capitalism, poll says

A Yale Buckley Institute survey finds nearly half of undergraduates favor socialism over capitalism, with some even praising countries like Cuba.

Liberal students were most supportive, highlighting ideological bias on campus and concerns over suppression of opposing views.

The poll, conducted for Yale University’s William F. Buckley Institute, asked undergraduates whether they agreed with the statement, “While socialist countries like Cuba and the Soviet Union have not been perfect, they offer a better economic model than capitalist countries like the United States.”

Nearly half of respondents, 46 percent, supported the statement placing socialistic model of government above our capitalistic one, according exclusive early information about the poll in an exclusive by The New York Post. 39 percent disagreed, while 15 percent said they were unsure.

“If you had to choose, which economic system would you prefer to live under?” asked the poll. About 40 percent slightly preferred capitalism, 36 percent chose socialism, and 24 percent were unsure.

Political affiliation influenced responses: among students identifying as liberal, nearly six in 10 (58 percent) favored socialism, while 63 percent of conservatives preferred capitalism.

“It is alarming that a record percentage of undergraduates support shouting down opinions they don’t like,” said Buckley Institute Executive Director Lauren Noble about the poll. “Nearly 40% think violence is justifiable, a disturbing reality coming just weeks after Charlie Kirk’s assassination.”

AI Overview

Studies confirm that many American college students lack a basic grasp of U.S. history, but there is no evidence to suggest this is related to owning or cuddling teddy bears

. The idea that historical illiteracy and cuddling bears are linked appears to be a manufactured association intended to mock or discredit young people.

The issue of historical illiteracy

Multiple surveys and studies have documented the limited historical knowledge among American college students and recent graduates:

  • A 2024 survey by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) found that many students graduate without a "rudimentary grasp of America's history and political system". For example, in 2017, only 26% of Americans could correctly name all three branches of the U.S. government.

  • The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), or "America's report card," found that only 13% of eighth-graders were proficient in U.S. history in 2023.

  • A 2018 study by the Stanford History Education Group found that even upper-level history majors struggled to critically evaluate historical sources.

Reasons for declining historical knowledge

Academic analysis points to several educational and societal factors for this lack of historical knowledge:

  • Focus on vocational training: Some experts argue that in high school and college, an emphasis on STEM or business degrees has led to a de-prioritization of humanities subjects like history.

  • Curriculum shifts: The replacement of foundational history courses, such as U.S. or Western civilization surveys, with more specialized subjects has reduced the opportunity for students to learn a broad, chronological narrative.

  • Perceptions of relevance: Some students and educators question the relevance of historical facts in an era where information is easily accessible. This leads to a decline in student interest in required history courses.

  • Declining reading rates: The long-term decline in reading proficiency and enjoyment among young people has contributed to their historical illiteracy.

History is irrelevant because students can always look it up? That assumes that they will “look it up”, but with no historical reference to spur them to question an authority figure’s assertion, and lacking even idle curiosity, why would they?

Reader "Historically Yours" appears to have called it

circa 1774

When news broke that bits of a (very) old human skeleton had been uncovered in the back country earlier this week, I speculated that the remains were those of either Jimmy Hoffa or Amelia Earhart; Publius suggested they might belong to Judge Crater, but FWIW’s resident historian offered a more plausible origin:

Historically Yours 2 days ago

A local resident in the nearby area with knowledge of certain important details was texting me late Tuesday night. I stopped by to see the archival staff at Greenwich Historical Society. We were immersed in discussion about this matter, 411 Stanwich Road and 151 Old Church Road.

The skeletel remains are being examined. The news of such a discovery did not surprise me. The remains were accidentally unearthed on one of the historic properties associated with the early settlement of the area by Quakers. It was the 18th century.

I am 99% certain that there are other unmarked or lost graves in parts of Greenwich. Graves were more often than not marked with plain field stones. It was also customary for families to establish private family plots near their farmsteads. As modern-day owners of these properties perform changes to these historical places unmarked graves are bound to be revealed.

I know this first hand. A Mead family cemetery in northwestern Greenwich had been lost and missing for at least 70 years, according to Town Historian William E. Finch, Jr. The carved gravestones were lain flat. There was no wall or fence around the perimeter.

It was on July 2, 1989 (and 100F degrees) that I found the cemetery. Two elderly black women -whose father was a superintendent on the Solomon Stoddard Mead Farm and who still lived in their house- were crucial in its rediscovery. I tripped on a marble foot stone that was barely visible. Restoration commenced quickly. The cemetery is restored and under the care of a family association, Historic Mead Burying Grounds, Inc.

I have suggested that these skeletel remains be reinterred at the exact same location, that an archeological survey of the site be performed, and that it be added to the list of Greenwich cemeteries

Now there’s been a follow up — I’m providing a link to today’s Greenwich Time article, but really, the headline says all there is to know, for now, and it appears that Historically was on the right track.

Human remains found at Greenwich construction site are 'of a historic nature,' medical examiner says

Mind you, that doesn’t rule out Pocahontas, whose grave is still missing, poor child.

Democrats Are Convinced Republicans Will Take the Blame for a Government Shutdown

John Sexton, HotAir:

“With a government shutdown less than a week away, both parties seem convinced the other party is going to take the bulk of the blame when it happens. That dynamic almost certainly means it's going to happen.

“The Washington Post has a story up today in which Democrats vow not to blink this time around.”

Democratic leaders in the House and Senate are holding firm to their vow to oppose a relatively straightforward measure to extend government funding past Sept. 30 unless Republicans agree to negotiate on health care...

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-New York) endured heavy criticism from Democrats in and out of Washington after voting in March against blocking a previous Republican funding bill. He pledged that Democrats would be more prepared ahead of the next funding deadline — a rare moment of leverage for Democratic senators because Republicans need their votes to prevent a shutdown.

The story does acknowledge that it's usually the party out of power that gets blamed for these things, but Democrats are confident this time will be different.

Republicans argue Democrats will be blamed for the shutdown because they’re the ones demanding something in exchange for their votes. But Schumer and other Democrats have cited polling showing that more Americans would blame Trump and Republicans for a shutdown than would blame Democrats.

“Who wins in a shutdown? Traditionally, it would be the party in the White House,” said Jim Kessler, a former Schumer aide who is now executive vice president for policy at Third Way, a center-left think tank. “But Donald Trump has been so eager for a showdown and a fight that the old rules of blame may not apply.”

I'm not sure what polling they are relying on but there is a poll out today saying that Republicans will get blamed no matter how the question is framed.

Note the big caveat here. A plurality prefers passing a clean CR.

...despite their support for the Democrats’ voting against a funding bill as a way to signal support for health care, few adults want the government to actually close. A plurality of the public favors both parties passing a short-term continuing resolution to keep the government open at current funding levels (37%) while they debate a longer-term solution. If that’s not possible, fewer voters want a clean bill without changes (21%) vs withholding votes until funding is restored (26%).

….

“Meanwhile, the White House clearly isn't putting much stock in that poll (or whatever Democrats are looking at). An unnamed White House official said their plan was to punish Dems for this.”

“We’re going to extract maximum pain,” said the official, granted anonymity to discuss political strategy, adding that Democrats “will pay a huge price for this.”...

“Historically, it’s the aggressor that always loses,” the senior White House official said. “And quite simply, their constituencies and their priorities are all going to get chewed up, and ours, not so much.”...

Administration officials believe that once a potential shutdown starts, Democrats won’t be able to hold out “very long” and that GOP allies on the Hill are aligned. They “are strapped in for a fight. They’re gonna make them vote five-plus times,” the senior official said...

“We’re bracing for impact,” the White House official said.

Sexton:

“As I described in some detail here, I think the Trump administration does have a potential weakness here that Democrats may be trying to exploit and it doesn't have anything to do with health care issues. Democrats were hesitant to go all in on a shutdown back in March because they were fairly confident that Trump's tariffs were going to lead to an economic downturn. If we were on the cusp of that, they didn't want a government shutdown to confuse people about who was responsible for that downturn in the economy. In other words, they wanted to be able to blame Trump and for Trump to have no way to point the finger back at them.

“But as Ezra Klein pointed out, one of the key things that hand changed was that the expected downturn hadn't happened.”

Trump’s tariffs are unpopular, but what damage they have done to him politically they have already done or they will do over time, as price increases squeeze Americans. We are not in a recession. The economy is not in chaos. Democrats cannot stand back and hope the markets will do their work for them.

….

“The possibility of damaging the economy has been front an center in every past shutdown. And at this moment it would certainly help explain why Democrats are willing to go forward with this despite having not much hope for success in the short term. If the shutdown weakens the economy just enough that they can blame the downturn on Trump's tariffs, that would be a big advantage for them heading into the midterms and beyond. It's risky and very irresponsible but at this point they may feel they have to take the risk because a) their base is demanding they fight and b) things aren't trending in their direction as they'd hoped.”

FWIW: It will be an interesting next couple of weeks; look for 24-hour coverage of the desolation and grief suffered by “ordinary citizens”, replete wih pictures of starving children. The media monkeys have already pre-loaded their articles, and has=ve an entire library of faked photographs left over from Gaza, all of which they’ll use.

Syracuse students, including a Class of ‘24 GHS grad charged with hate crime after pork is tossed in Jewish frat on Rosh Hashanah

They burst into the frat’s dining hall just as the members were sitting down to a Rosh Hashanah dinner and threw a bag of raw pork on the wall, presumably to show their peers back on campus how righteous and pro-Hamas they are; right on, boys; not as dramatic as firebombing a Tesla, admittedly, but Tesla burning is so yesterday — literally, so you did the best you could.

The SU students — identified as 18-year-olds Kyle Anderson and Samuel Patten — are currently lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center and pending arraignment.

A quick search of the internet doesn’t turn up much on Greenwich resident Kyle Anderson, other than his attendance at GHS, but there’s a but more on his partner in crime and classmate at Syracuse’s Whitman School of Management, Samuel Patton.

About

I am a current undergraduate student at Syracuse University, studying Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises at the Whitman School of Management and Information Management & Technology at the ISchool. I've always had a passion for business, driven by the idea that a business or a product can positively benefit society. I aspire to work in an environment where I can make a meaningful difference, and I believe that the business world will provide the opportunity for me to succeed in this goal.

“Positively benefit society”? Well, he and Master Patton could still achieve that by becoming plumbers; and, turning lemons into lemonade, they’ll end up making far more money than they would have as cubical-dwellers, and be spared crushing student loan debt. Unfortunately, they may be studying for their apprentice exam in a 6X110 cell, because their crime comes just at the moment universities and prosecutors are looking to demonstrate their commitment to punish (non-muslim) anti-Semites, and these two will provide just such an opportunity. Never engage in the crime du jure, was my advice to clients back in the day usually, as here, too late to spare them from the consequences of their acts,

Eighth time the charm?

550 Round Hill Road is coming back on the market, this time looking for $15.9 million; it’s ranged from $22.5 million in 2008 to as low as $10.750 in 2013 and again in 2021, so toss a bid at it for whatever number you think fit. I’ll give it this: it does offer a pretty great view, perched high above the huddled masses on the flatlands of Belle Haven and Chickahominy.
