I strongly support undoing Biden's border insanity, but forcing these people back to the hell hole that is Haiti strikes me as appallingly cruel

welcome back to paradise

Trump admin set to let protected status for 350,000 Haitian migrants expire in February

DHS is offering $1,000 exit bonus and free plane tickets for voluntary departure by February 2026

“After consulting with interagency partners, Secretary [Kristi] Noem concluded that Haiti no longer meets the statutory requirements for TPS," DHS said in a news release. "This decision was based on a review conducted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, input from relevant U.S. government agencies, and an analysis indicating that allowing Haitian nationals to remain temporarily in the United States is inconsistent with U.S. national interests."

I suppose that, because Haiti is a ruined country that will never recover, the temporary refugee status for Haitians either has to be made permanent or ended, and ending it is the right course, but having allowed them to live with false hope for fifteen years and then shatter it is awful to witness.

UPDATE: To clarify, yes, they have to go — that doesn’t take way the horrors these people face when they’re dumped back into what Trump described as “a shit hole” and Conan O’Brien claims is paradise; I'm sure the Haitians would agree with Trump, not the fatuous (former?) talk show host. They’ll have no jobs, no food, no where to live; pretty much what they (didn’t) have before they left.

But the real cruelty is that we set them up for this; invited then in, pretending we’d only let them stay for two years and then doing nothing about repatriating them, year after year. They settled in and, understandably, thought they were here forever. No one back then could have realistically believed that Haitai was going to get better so that our guests would want to return: the place has been a ruin since the French ran it as a slave colony, from what I’ve read, the most brutal of any of the slave islands, stayed bad after the slave revolt that brought about a nation in 1804, and is aa horrible today as it was then. What hadn’t been accomplished in two hundred years wasn’t going to get done if given fifteen more.

So we knew that, and brought them in anyway. I blame the Light Bringer.

And UPDATE II

While writing the above yesterday, I was assuming that most of these Haitians had come into the country after the 2010 earthquake, but later in the afternoon, I remembered — duh — that there had plenty of others who arrived during the Biden open boarder period. It was Thanksgiving, and I had better things to do than update this post, but today I don’t, so here’s a brief summary (without the wonderful chart I found yesterday, but can’t easily lay my hands on now, that shows the million + granted entry by Obama and Biden combined):

Lawful Pathways

  • CHNV Humanitarian Parole Program: As of December 2024, approximately 211,040 Haitians have arrived and been granted parole through this program, which began in January 2023. This program allows up to 30,000 individuals per month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to come to the U.S. legally if they have a U.S.-based financial supporter and pass background checks.

  • Temporary Protected Status (TPS): The Biden administration expanded TPS for Haitians already in the U.S., shielding an additional 309,000 individuals from deportation.

MSNBC house idiot Ken Dilanian

MS NOW journalist is accused of defending shooter who attacked two National Guardsmen in Washington DC

Justice and Intelligence Correspondent Ken Dilanian speculated Wednesday that the unidentified suspect, who is in custody, may have mistaken the West Virginia guardsmen for members of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

'But of course, there's so much controversy happening now in the United States, with ICE, who are also wearing uniforms and wearing masks,' Dilanian said live at 3pm ET on Katy Tur Reports.

'And, so, you don't know - people walking around with uniforms in an American city, there are some Americans who might object to that. And so, apparently this shooting has happened.'

Or as Ilhan Omar would (did) say of 9/11, "some people did something"

Beege Welborn:

German Cities Nearing Insolvency Supporting Refugees and Asylum Seekers

The mayor of a town called Essen, Mayor Thomas Kufen, who is also a member of the ruling Christian Democrats' (CDU) federal executive board, made some waves recently when he bluntly said

'Almost every German city is now on the verge of bankruptcy.'

...In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, only 10 out of 396 cities and municipalities can present a balanced budget, and these alarming figures from Germany’s largest federal state can be applied to the “entire country,” he said.

Welborn: And why is that? Well, the windmills haven't helped, but there's one simple, very expensive reason budgets are being blown to smithereens, even in cities that were 'formerly considered wealthy.'

THE WELFARE STATE

...Kufen emphasized the need for a national discussion on affordability: “We have to talk about what we can do so that our welfare state itself does not become a social case. This means: What do we want to afford and what else can we afford?”

However, he noted that cities cannot make these crucial decisions themselves; only the federal government can

Kufen illustrated the crisis with figures from his own city, Essen, which has a population of nearly 600,000. The city had planned a balanced budget for 2025. “But instead of a slight increase of €1.7 million, we currently have a deficit of €123 million,” he calculated.

Once again, refugee accommodation and integration are near the top of the list for reasons why the city is seeing a budget shortfall. Far from being a solution to Germany’s budget and pension crisis, they have become a massive financial burden for the country, costing at least €50 billion a year in social integration, housing, and benefits.

The debt required to sustain the immigrant population - not the native population - is spiraling out of control as the arrivals suck up ever more resources while contributing next to nothing to help sustain themselves.

There is no assimilation. There is no becoming German.

The newcomers remain wards of the state generationally.

...However, there are also many more hidden costs to mass immigration, including rising housing prices, healthcare costs, education costs for an increasingly foreign student population, and housing a huge number of foreigners in German prisons and psychiatric institutions. Just like Essen, even major cities like Berlin are seeing “spiraling costs” due to mass immigration, leading to large-scale debt required to keep the cities running.

Some research studies have indicated that the overall cost of immigration has already cost Germany trillions and could reach €20 trillion if migration numbers do not fall.

But between the European Union dictating that borders will remain open, Merz's milquetoast obeisance to Brussels Brahmins, and the German Court system's dogged adoration of the Merkel 'Wir schaffen das' immigration doctrine...

‘Disaster for immigration authorities’: Court ruling set to hamper deportation efforts

A ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court’s may seriously hamper the efforts of the government of Chancellor Friedrich Merz to bring down the number of illegal immigrants in Germany, says those in law-enforcement.

Germany’s highest court has ruled that police need to obtain a search warrant before they can enter the residence of an asylum seeker slated for deportation.

The ruling came on September 30 but has only just been made public.

The author's right: it's not race that's the problem, it's black slum culture - five generations of living on entitlement payouts has destroyed it

Is American Urban Culture Beyond Repair? Retail Reparations Pt. III

Benjamin Bartee, PJ Media: Examining the deleterious impacts of modern urban culture on the American social fabric and its future prognosis.

‘Target stole from my ancestors’

Assuming one is endowed with the preferred ethnic heritage, why is their retail theft not criminal?

The BLM lady in the video below explains that, in fact, shoplifting consumer goods from Target is not a crime because “there’s a whole ‘nother socioeconomic piece that I’ve never had access to” as a black woman.

In fact, shoplifting is “resourceful as f**k,” she notes.

She continues: “Target enslaved my ancestors year [sic] ago.”

(Fact check: The first Target store opened in 1962 in Minnesota, a non-slave state which first became a state in 1858, just five years before the Emancipation Proclamation. Needless to say, there is no connection whatsoever in the historical record between Target and chattel slavery in the United States.)

The gentleman interviewing her — an evil white man who can’t relate to the “resourceful” urban penchant for shoplifting, she makes sure to point out in her sophistic apologetics — politely tries to explore the moral slippery slope she has created when she blanket green-lights retail theft from random corporations that didn’t even exist in the days of slavery and ostensibly have nothing to do with the practice that was outlawed over 150 years ago.

“At what point do we not uphold any values… If we steal from Target, then we steal from CVS, then we steal from Walmart, then the Walmarts leave, and then all we have is corner stores… when we run out all these large businesses.”

With no one left to steal from, where’s sustenance going to come from?

The reason doesn’t take.

The argument she falls back on, in the end, is that black people don’t steal from black-owned corner stores. [citation needed]

Let’s imagine a hypothetical (but impossible) scenario in which every retail outlet somehow becomes black-owned.

Who in their right mind believes the subculture that has been conditioned for decades to believe it has a sacred right to pillage anything and everything because of crimes committed against their ancestors hundreds of years ago, real or imagined, would suddenly have some collective moral epiphany and realize that, actually, robbing hardworking people’s livelihoods for their personal benefit is wrong?

What becomes obvious is that there is no bottom of the barrel in terms of grasping at straws to justify what is obviously unjustifiable.

The thing you’re not allowed to say out loud, even though everyone with common sense knows it to be true, is that the culture at the most basic level is broken.

It wasn’t just broken by the people to whom it belongs; this was a society-wide program of fanning the flames of racial resentment, denying any personal agency, discouraging self-sufficiency while encouraging self-entitlement, and fostering an “anything goes” attitude among a certain subset of the population as some sort of atonement for historical wrongs.

Universities, school districts nationwide call for 'decolonizing' Thanksgiving: 'Day of mourning'

As families across the U.S. gather on Thanksgiving to celebrate one of the nation’s most cherished national holidays, some educators and schools are lamenting the day, pushing back on its "colonial" roots, and incorporating diversity, equality and inclusion DEI into the holiday.

At the University of California, Davis, the California History-Social Science Project, which describes itself as "Resources & professional learning for K-12 history-social science," hosted a Zoom event called "Decolonizing Thanksgiving in the Classroom."

"We will discuss reframing classroom practices and rituals about Thanksgiving," the event description explained. "Centering perspectives from Turtle Island (a name for North America used by some indigenous people) will help us decolonize Thanksgiving and spark new conversations about how to authentically make meaning of this holiday with our students."

And so forth and so on, blah, blah blah. This rebuttal by PJ Media’s C.A. Skeet is worth printing in full:

The Real Reason the Left Hates Thanksgiving

Another Thanksgiving is upon us and, with it, another round of performative art from the left in the form of howls and shrieks about “stolen land” and “celebrating genocide.” Being conservatives, most of us simply don’t have the time to repeatedly engage in unproductive debate with these leftists, seeing as we have jobs to perform, kids to raise, spouses to love, and homes to maintain, the responsibilities of which consume hours too precious to waste trying to reason with a brick wall with no ears and a loud mouth. However, since being graciously hired by PJ Media, I’ve amassed a loyal following of readers whose numbers are approaching double digits, and hence I feel driven by ego and greed to keep that rolling snowball amassing weight.

So for the umpteenth time to the cheap seats on the left: Conquered land is not stolen land. And even if it were, there isn’t an inch of inhabited land on this planet that wasn’t “stolen” from someone else at one time or another. If you oppose Europeans wresting land from Indians, surely you also oppose Indians wresting land from other Indians, as they did for centuries before Columbus landed? Or does that inconvenient unpleasantry not warrant a land acknowledgement statement from the university DEI hire?

Yes, we did fight wars against the Indians and we did drive them from the land. But war waged for territory and resources is not the same thing as genocide. Voluntary assimilation, which is what most Indians chose to do, is also not genocide. And as I’ve said before, if you oppose wars of conquest, and if you support returning every “indigenous” population to their questionable “original” homeland, then this standard needs to apply across the board.

You’ve undoubtedly noticed that those screaming the loudest on Thanksgiving about “stolen land” conveniently ignore the fact that, at the time of the first Thanksgiving in 1620, land was being wholesale stolen from Europeans in a pattern that had begun almost 1000 years prior by a schizophrenic warlord in western Arabia, and was later compounded by bloodthirsty megalomaniacs on horseback from central Asia. If Europeans are expected to “go back to where they came from,” then it would only be morally just if those who have invaded Europe, North Africa, and the Holy Land also “go back to where they came from.”

But that’s not what the left wants, is it? Because if everyone on the planet “went back to where they came from,” do you know what would happen? Europe, Japan, the Asian Tigers, and a Muslim-free Mediterranean (as well as a Muslim-free Persia, India, and Byzantium) would positively flourish. The rest of the world would sink even deeper into peripheral irrelevancy. And that would only further illustrate the resounding triumph of free market capitalism, cultivated and upheld by the Judeo-Christian ethic, in contrast to the dead end secular hedonism of the 20th Century’s bloodiest ideologies and the tribalist ignorance of societies who, before they were “colonized” by the West, had literally not yet discovered the wheel.

Attempts to denigrate Thanksgiving by rewriting or ignoring its history are simply a larger part of the left’s attempt to destroy our shared culture. The left depends on segregation and permanent grievance to divide and conquer. But this is just political strategy. What’s underneath the politics? What is really driving leftists to embrace such nihilistic, cultish, and logically indefensible views? If you truly espouse tolerance and diversity, why not celebrate the most significant holiday in our lexicon that is based on the historical day when two diametrically opposed cultures and peoples put their differences aside and feasted together in a spirit of friendship and brotherhood?

Because the politics are a smokescreen. Underneath the yard sign philosophies of love and tolerance lie the ugly, twisted faces of bitterness, envy, resentment, and spite. You know the incel who gets rejected by a woman, and then he hates all women and blames them for all his problems? This is the left across a broad sociopolitical platform. The left is that spurned virgin, unappreciated for his supposed talents and abilities, lashing out at the both the women he feels belong to him by proprietary right, as well as the men who have proven themselves the more dominant wolves in the pack.

It's the oldest story in human history. It’s Cain killing Abel. Because if Cain can’t have the adoration, then nobody can.

Resentful, bitter people will never be thankful for anything. And they’re downright offended that we celebrate this holiday, the entire purpose of which is to humbly express gratitude for what we have been given. It flies in the face of their entire worldview. It has nothing to do with Indians and land. It has everything to do with the fact that most leftists are, unequivocally, hands down, the most utterly and pathetically miserable people ever stillborn into unwanted being in the history of lavish, overindulgent civilizations. And misery loves company, especially when that company feels the pressure of civility to not “get into it” at the Thanksgiving table.

But being naturally more tolerant and less confrontational than your leftist relative doesn’t oblige you to sit there and swallow their woke drivel in the name of “keeping the peace.” If little Braeden and little Madison home from college try to slip in some passive aggressive swipe about Thanksgiving, call them out on it. Stand your ground. Enforce your boundaries. Present the historical facts as they are. Don’t let them pivot. Don’t let them deflect. Keep bringing the conversation back to their original snide “gotcha” remark. But do it while staying cool, calm, and collected. Let little Braeden and Madison be the ones who get in a tizzy about it. Let them be the ones who make the scene.

You literally have to treat them like a child throwing a tantrum which, at the end of the day, is exactly who they are. It might ruin an otherwise good Thanksgiving, but it will prevent future occurrences if the child understands that the adults in the room will not tolerate their feral behavior.

And who knows? Maybe by this time next year, they will have had a run-in with some actual adversity that knocks them off their perch. Maybe they will feel that strange, new, hitherto unrecognizable feeling deep in their bosoms. Maybe they’ll be ready to express some sincere thanksgiving.

And so is this:

Abraham Lincoln's Proclamation of Thanksgiving

Washington DC, October 3, 1863

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the United States the Eighty-eighth.

By the President: Abraham Lincoln

‘Green Wednesday’ surges as Americans swap alcohol for cannabis ahead of Thanksgiving

Dispensaries report record cannabis sales, even as experts flag mental and heart-health risks

According to Dutchie, an Oregon-based e-commerce platform used by thousands of dispensaries across the U.S., average sales increased 91% on Nov. 27, 2024 — the day before Thanksgiving last year — compared to a typical Wednesday. The average basket per shopper increased by 9% to more than $70.

New York dispensaries reported even higher numbers, according to the analysis, with medical baskets reaching more than $106.

Well, it's been a full four months and the ashtrays are full so ...

28 North Ridge Road, Havemeyer Park, was bought for $2.5 million on July 25th and it’s back on the market this morning at $3.1. The listing says it’s gained new HVAC equipment and some paint’s been slapped around, so the proud owners have been busy.

(In fact, it looks as though they never moved in; it was put up for rent the day title closed back in July)

It's the smug hypocrisy of EV owners that I find most annoying; well that, and their deliberate ignorance

Ignoring EV Pollution for Fake Climate Crisis

The silent, gleaming chassis of an electric vehicle (EV) glides through a pristine forest or a spotless, futuristic city. The message is simple: The driver is saving the planet. It is a narrative built on a convenient, calculated omission.

Pull back the curtain on the EV supply chain – starting with Indonesian nickel mining and extending through rare-earth mineral processing in China – and there is revealed a far less immaculate picture. The "zero tailpipe emissions" tag is a masterpiece of misdirection, diverting attention away from an environmental hellscape.

In Sulawesi, Indonesia, conveyor belts stretch across once-lush forests belching dust into the air, while smokestacks stain the sky with a toxic haze. The rush to supply the West’s EV appetite has triggered a nickel boom, but the cost lands squarely on the people and ecosystems of Indonesia.

So, why single out nickel? Today’s batteries – the heart of EV propulsion – are built on nickel, of which Indonesia is the largest producer. Without Indonesian nickel, the supply chains for “clean” vehicles grind to a halt. And every new electric SUV delivered to showrooms leaves behind the environmental cost imposed on these Indonesian communities.

What exactly billows from Indonesian smokestacks and seeps from factory discharges into rivers and soils? A partial list includes sulfur dioxide, a corrosive gas; nitrogen oxides and microscopic particulate matter, both constituents of smog; chromium; ammonia; hydrogen sulfide; and heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, cobalt and cadmium. All are pollutants with potential effects on health.

Fishers from Sulawesi and North Maluku lament vanishing shoals and toxic mud spilling into the sea. Even the air is said to taste of metal and ash. These are the lived experiences of thousands of Indonesians, not isolated anecdotes.

The battery is only part of the story. The EV’s electric motor, as well as the machinery of giant wind turbines that might charge the battery, require powerful magnets made from rare-earth minerals. And more than 90% of the world's supply of these processed minerals comes from China.

The processing of these minerals has left in its wake an ecological ruin that is glossed over in Western policy debates.

Cities like Baotou in Inner Mongolia are infamous for dystopian toxic lakes, which are artificial ponds filled with black sludge contaminated by thorium, uranium and hazardous chemicals. Acidic wastewater, the byproduct of mineral extraction and processing, leaks into the environment, poisoning farmland and waterways.

Toxic runoff has polluted Southeast Asian rivers such as the Malihka and N'Mai Hka, which are headwaters of the great Irrawaddy and Mekong rivers. Water supplies for millions of people in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam have been tainted.
Sadly, “green” enthusiasts are not interested in real pollution but rather in the demonization of carbon dioxide (CO2). The alarmist movement requires an invisible, ubiquitous bogeyman to panic people in relinquishing their money and sovereignty.

(snip)

The intent here is not to halt the use of nickel or rare earths, both of which serve many useful purposes. The point is, the "green" agenda is not green. It is a dark marketing campaign for a self-serving ideology willing to sacrifice whole regions to its toxic byproducts.
