Chef Boyardee is canned by his (now former) constituents

was that wrong? should I not have said that?

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Sean Patrick Maloney admitted defeat in his reelection bid to the House Tuesday.

Maloney, a five-term incumbent, conceded to Republican candidate Mike Lawler Wednesday morning, having been trailing him in the polls by 6%, according to multiple reports. He was running in New York’s newly-drawn 17th Congressional District, covering Rockland County and parts of Westchester County, which includes many affluent suburbs, and is the congressional district of Bill and Hillary Clinton.

The man’s campaign was known to be in trouble for weeks, and redistricting hurt him, but the icing on the cake was when he echoed that famous French gourmand and suggested that constituents feeling inflation’s pinch switch from fresh food to canned Chef Boyardee, and use the savings to buy fuel for their homes and cars. Voters were not amused.

“Well, I grew up in a family where if the gas price went up, the food price went down, so by this time of the week we’d be eating Chef Boyardee if that budget wasn’t gonna change. So, that’s what families have to do.”

Minor symbolic victories aren’t as satisfying as significant wins but they’re fun, and today we have to take our pleasure where we can.
