On a happier note, 44 Sound Beach Avenue finally reports a contract

Built in 1750, 44 Sound Beach Avenue has been a noticeable touch of grace in a neighborhood long given over to lesser homes. I mentioned, when it came on the market last June, that it had been owned by a good friend of mine, Melinda Ogilvy (David Ogilvy’s mother) and that I had many fond memories of the house. It’s still a great asset to Old Greenwich, and I’m glad that someone has recognized that.

UPDATE: I’ve heard from a reader that an Old Greenwich resident who I won’t name because I haven’t spoken to him personally, is buying the house with the intention of renovating it and living there. The buyer has a great reputation in town for honoring and protecting our few true antique homes, so this one is safe, for now; the same reader says that, after he’d inherited it from his mother, David Ogilvy told him that he was being besieged by builders who wanted to “develop” the lot. David was as passionate about preserving our heritage as this new owner is, so I’m sure he’s pleased, looking down.
