Maine: Midcoast residents rally against Aroostook Country renewable power line project
When the Aroostook Renewable Gateway power corridor was approved by the state legislature earlier this year, many in the midcoast didn’t realize how it would affect towns outside of northern Maine. Now, months later, residents are rallying against the energy project.
To be fair, people who believe in the fairy dust and unicorn dust that comprise renewable energy are shocked to discover that they’ll have to pay for it, whether it’s power lines pipelines passing within 20 miles of their homes, 1,000-acre solar farms, monthly electrical bills that have already doubled and are on track to quadruple in five years, rolling blackouts, etc. So they squawk, protest, and sue. The new infrastructure necessary to power the nation’s factories, homes, and vehicles with solar and wind power will almost certainly never be built, and will definitely not be ready by 2035, when the coal and natural gas plants will have been closed, and production of non-electric cars, generators, and furnaces will be but distant memories.
Fun times ahead.
