Florida man says he’ll admit to murder in exchange for Philly Cheesesteak
Robert Kessler, 74, faces charge of first-degree murder
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida murder suspect with a hearty appetite made headlines after he said he’d accept a plea deal, which could send him to prison for life — in exchange for lunch.
The suspect in question, identified as 74-year-old Robert Kessler, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death and dismemberment of a 47-year-old woman he was living with in November 2021.
During Monday’s jury selection, though, Kessler can be heard on video agreeing to plead guilty on one condition.
“I’ll do that for a Philly cheesesteak, and an order of fries and a Pepsi,” he said.
“So you’re telling me you would open plead to life in prison?” the judge can be heard asking.
“Philly cheesesteak with onions on it and mayonaisse, and, uh, fries,” Kessler responded. “And a 20-oz. Pepsi.”
The prosecution’s attorney said that’s not an option, so Kessler opted to not plead guilty after all.
As such, the trial is still ongoing.
It does sound as though the trial is going to be a quick one, but still, there are expenses to consider, expenses that could have been avoided by ordering in the requested cheesesteak from a local sandwich shop from, say, Tampa’s Big Dave’s. C’mon, man, even if the state has to pay itself sales tax on the meal, a full trial will cost far more than seventeen bucks.
