Did you know that Google’s AI program will, unsolicited, offer to generate a dispute and a counter-argument to your friend’s conservative opinion? Now I do, anyway.
/“Dear asshole: As an infant, you must have been dropped on your head, repeatedly, for you to send such a ridiculous message. Fortunately, we have intercepted your mailing and protected our customer from ever seeing it. That knock on your door? Yeah, it’s who you think it is. Sincerely yours, the Google Team.”
I received today an email from a friend that mostly discussed personal matters and then turned briefly to last week’s election, expressing his opinion that because the Democrat turnout this year was 22% higher than in 2022, that alone could account for the Blue tsunami, “in which case, all this talk about Iran, the economy, etc, is nothing but hot air.”
In the reply box, Google thoughtfully supplied a recommended answer, including this invitation to a fight:
“As for the election, it’s a grim picture, though I’m not sure I’d count the economy as just hot air. Still, those turnout numbers are something else.”
I don’t need, or want, an algorithm created and programmed by an idiot liberal reading my correspondence and encouraging me to disagree with a friend’s conservative opinions. At least, today, it gives me the option not to send its reply; it’s not too hard to envision a future where these programs review all email for objectionable views, draft a reply that refutes them, and send them out automatically, without the consent of the account holder.
