33 Meeting House Road, on the market since 2009, when it started at $8.995, is now down to $4.995. Nothing wrong with the house itself, but there's plenty wrong with the street..

Bonus: it back's up to Steve Cohen's house on Crown Lane, so if you're nice, maybe you can play hockey there.*

*If it's still there — I seem to recall hearing he removed it after his kids grew up. Tea, perhaps.

UPDATE: I just heard from listing agentJoe Barbieri that the Licata mess that has so damaged value on this street (some streets have gated guard houses, others have impressive stone pillars, Meeting House has Licta's abandoned pink elephant) is under contract and will be completed by the buyer. I can't imagine why, but nonetheless, it will be an impressive, albeit different (Spanish mission style) mansion, and it will cease being such a downer. If so, then 33 Meeting House probably represents a real value at its current price. Nowhere to go but up.

The failed four-unit condo project at Milbank, each originally listed for around $3.5 million back in 2014 and then lost to foreclosure, went to auction a few weeks ago, and is now reported sold for $2 million per unit, the reserve price, all to one buyer.

If Richard Grenell, Donald Trump’s choice to become U.S. ambassador to Germany, were confirmed by the Senate, he’d become the administration’s first openly gay appointee to any post, but during confirmation hearings earlier this week Sen. Chris Murphy, (D-Conn.) took Grenell to task over a series of nasty tweets insulting women like Rachel Maddow’s and Hillary Clinton’s appearances. 

Grenell, a longtime Republican activist, was the longest-serving U.S. spokesman at the United Nations, serving from 2001 to 2008, under four U.N. ambassadors in the George W. Bush administration. He also had a two-week stint as national security spokesman for Republican Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign in 2012, but he has said he left because talk of his sexuality overshadowed his work with foreign policy. 

But like the man who nominated him for the post of Ambassador to Germany, Grenell has an ugly history on Twitter in which he’s used the platform to insult women. 

In questioning Grenell, Murphy called out the “litany of derogatory comments about women’s personal appearances” as “very inflammatory things” the nominee has said, according to The Washington Blade. And when Murphy asked Grenell if he had regrets about skewering women online, he said it was “never my intention to hurt anyone’s feelings.” He added that he was trying to be funny and that perhaps the humor didn't go over well. 

Murphy refrained from repeating the insults Grenell had hurled at women but according to The Washington Blade they consisted of a couple internalized homophobic/misogynist insults aimed at Rachel Maddow in which he wrote, she “needs to take a breath and put on a necklace.” He also said she looked like Justin Bieber in another tweet. Other women he insulted included Calista Gingrich, who he accused of having hair that she “snaps on.” Finally, he insulted two women with one tweet. 

“Hillary is starting to look like Madeleine Albright,” he once tweeted. 

It's no wonder that Murphy "refrained from repeating the insults Grinell has hurled at women". Anyone except this idiot reporter would be embarrassed to claim that poking fun at someone's hairdo could be interpreted as "internalized homophobic/misogynist insults" (ponder that phrase, for a moment), serous enough to disqualify him from serving as an ambassador.

Had he found a vacancy, at least we'd have been spared the Left's glee at the murder of innocent people

Pretty fabulous house, but it's way out there in the sticks, and that's no longer an attractive neighborhood for what I'd guess is this one's natural market, the older corporate executive. Then again, not every such person wants to live in a downtown condominium, so maybe this price cut will lure someone 12 miles from the Avenue.

Haters gonna hate

The internet has exploded with various tweets and Facebook post cheering the deaths in Las Vegas. These days nothing the left does surprises me, but I take some consolation from learning that one of these evil persons has been fired, from CBS. 

Geftman-Gold wrote in a Facebook post comment how she didn't have any hope that Republicans, "Repugs," would "ever do the right thing," and that she isn't sympathetic to the shooting victims because country music fans are often "Republican gun toters." The Daily Caller was the first to report on her comments.

"If they wouldn't do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing," Geftman-Gold wrote on Facebook. "I'm actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters."

The woman, a graduate of Columbia Law School and current resident of Brooklyn, is clearly Jewish. I mention this not as some kind of anti-Semitic screed, but to point out how "fear of others" causes people to justify the most horrible things done to those others, just as ordinary Germans justified rounding up and slaughtering millions of their fellow Jewish neighbors. How ironic that the derangement should also strike a woman who likely lost family members to the very same phenomenon.

I can't vouch for what the Mainstream media's up to, but the sites I visit have begun profiling some of the victims shot Sunday night: a nurse who saved his orthopedic surgeon wife's life, a schoolteacher with "an incredible sense of humor", a minister's young wife who dreamed of starting her own business, a school bus driver described as "the ultimate give-forward guy", and so forth. In short, individuals. This CBS executive and her fellows on the left deny the individuality of the victims and cheer their destruction, all because of their fear and distaste for those they do not know. As history has shown, that's a dangerous place to go.
