Glenville Road contract

glenville.jpg

82 Glenville Road, asking $2.5, is under contract.

Built astride a swamp and a speedway by a local contractor who, depending on whim and weather, builds from mediocre to decent-quality, it hit the market in 2001 at $2.995 and sold for $3 — listing and selling agents were employed by the same broker, coincidentally.

After improvements and repairs, it was placed back on the market in 2012 at $3.875 million, and eventually sold for $2.350 in 2013.

This time, it started at $2.950, in 2018. My guess is that the accepted offer is around that 2013 price of $2.350 — may the vaccine work, may workers return to and revive NYC, and may Wall Street never crash again.

Sick of politics, so question:

If you catch and release a fish, does it rejoin a school? If not, what happens to it?

Curiosity is one of the most permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous intellect.

Samuel Johnson

I won’t claim a “vigorous intellect”, but perhaps you do, and know, or can find the answer to this puzzler. I asked it of a fishing partner, a Harvard Law grad, Senior Partner, no less, and he told me that he’d never thought about it, and implied that he thought less of me for asking. I’ll bet FWIW readers can do better.

United Airlines kicks 2-year-old off flight for refusing to say “black lives matter”.

"We tried! We even practiced together for weeks," said the sobbing mother on Facebook Live. "But little Adeline couldn't get the words out! The best she could do was 'bwak wives mawa.' She was able to make a little fist which she raised above her head, but that wasn't good enough for the flight attendants."

More of the Tower of Skulls unearthed

Archaeologists in Mexico have found 119 more human skulls in a grisly Aztec "tower of skulls."

The discovery was made on the east side of the "Huei Tzompantli," a grisly Aztec trophy rack, which is near the Templo Mayor in Mexico City. The Huei Tzompantli was the main trophy rack of sacrificed humans in the ancient city of Tenochtitlan.

Two towers of mortared skulls flanked the rack.

Anthropologists were reportedly surprised to find that the tower not only included the skulls of young men, but also skulls of women and children. Archaeologist Raúl Barrera suggested that perhaps some of the skulls came from captives who were sacrificed to the gods in Aztec ceremonies, according to the Guardian.

The sacrificed skulls, found about 3.5 yards below street level, included some from women and children and officials saw the huge pile of skulls as a sign of the power and prestige of the pre-Hispanic city.

Mexican culture minister Alejandra Frausto heralded the discovery, saying, “The Templo Mayor continues to surprise us, and the Huey Tzompantli is without doubt one of the most impressive archaeological finds of recent years in our country.”

Yes, I already knew that Big Tech knows everything, but it's still unsettling to have that made obvious

So, being 11-miles from the nearest pharmacy, I thought it might be convenient to use Amazon’s latest medication delivery service, even at the expense of a further sacrifice of my privacy. I needn’t have worried, it’s obviously long-since been compromised.

I logged into my Amazon account, submitted the last four digits of my social security number, and was prepared to give up my health insurance information, but there was no need: Amazon already has it in my dossier, and auto-filled the information. I aborted the application, but to what purpose? The damage was done decades ago.

I have never purchased anything health-related from Amazon, and have certainly never supplied any information about my health record, but that doesn’t matter, they’ve had it all along. And so have to rest of our new rulers.

21 Club shuts down, forever

[Updated and edited to incorporate Brother Anthony’s refinement on what the bouncer’s actual restriction was]

i was never there, but it was a part of family lore thanks to our father: As a young man of 25-or so, he went with friends to the place in, about 1930, during Prohibition, when the place was a speakeasy There was a bouncer at the door, demanding proof of age for all males: 21-years-old, minimum, or you weren’t allowed admission to drink illegal whiskey (girls exempted, naturally)

Father always looked younger than his years, and the doorman was skeptical, despite being shown both a driver’s license and military ID. He finally conceded: “Okay, he can come in,” the man growled to Pa’s friends, “but he can’t drink” [at the bar]

The delicious enjoyment of ironic bureaucratic lunacy, private and public, was one of the best inheritances my father passed on.

I expect more of this

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center won’t mandate COVID vaccine for its 89K employees

"Until we learn more and build our own experience with this vaccine, plus, until we see the uptake of vaccine in our communities, and have an understanding about the role that vaccination has in ending this pandemic, it's not the right thing to make it mandatory [for our employees]."

UPDATE: Fortunately, our woke betters are taking steps to ensure that a sacrificial anode will be afixed to the needles: D.C. Mayor orders that prisoners and the homeless be first in line to try out the new vaccines.
