Oh, the horror!

America’s Paper of Record has the story:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on Tuesday that the words "temporary" and "forever" are different, bucking years of tradition.

The court's ruling that two distinct words have two distinct definitions and cannot be used interchangeably sent ripples throughout the nation, forcing legislators to treat a law or status as temporary if that's what it actually says.

As part of the court's official opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote, "Don't you people understand English?"

Democrats were reeling from the historic ruling. "How are we supposed to sneak in permanent policy change if we're supposed to treat 'temporary' and 'forever' as different words?" Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asked. "This is really unprecedented."

In a passionate dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote, "If freedom of speech, then why not freedom of definition?"

Sotomayor's dissent echoed a statement from Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who argued that if "temporary" and "forever" were different, then her childhood cat, Mr. Muffins, really was dead.

Brandon Gill Shows How Dems Used Temporary Protected Status to Change Red States

Catherine Salgado, PJ Media (check the links she includes to her previous articles on this topic, going back years):

I have discussed before the danger of Democrats using mass illegal migration to rig Congress and the Electoral College in their favor. This is why the Biden administration wanted to count all residents in a state in the Census — and thus in congressional apportionment — regardless of their legal or illegal status. The Democrats always have a dedicated brainwashed base, but in order to take over the country permanently, because none of their policies bring positive results, they need to cheat. They are fine with cheating, and one of the ways they rig elections is through illegal immigration.

A gay time was (not) had by all

Sen. Chuck Schumer mercilessly booed at NYC Pride Parade

The new Democrat party is certainly unhappy with Jews who won’t denounce Israel — gay “rights” are now a back-burner issue (see previous post) — but the dissatisfaction runs deeper: the proper Democrat politician must now hate America, be pro-communism and against free enterprise and, ideally, sport a few Nazi tattoos.

The Post’s article on Schumer’s rude reception yesterday was pretty vague on what, besides his refusal to denounce Israeli “genocide”, the knotted-panties mob is upset about, and because I’m unwilling to prowl lefty sites to see what the fuss is about, I asked Google for a summary:

Political analysts and local footage highlight several main reasons for the backlash:

  • The Rise of the Democratic Socialists (DSA): Activists at the event expressed deep frustration with the "old New York Democrat machine". With left-wing, DSA-backed figures gaining massive popularity in the city—such as newly elected NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani—the progressive base increasingly views establishment figures like Schumer as too moderate, transactional, and disconnected from genuine popular movements. [1, 2]

  • Foreign Policy and Gaza: Schumer has faced persistent, intense protests from progressive groups—including progressive Jewish organizations like Jewish Voice for Peace—over his foreign policy stances and his handling of the war in Gaza. Activists have targeted his public appearances to protest establishment Democratic support for Israel. [1, 2, 3]

  • Perceived "Caving" in Washington: Left-wing voters have expressed frustration over Schumer's leadership in the Senate, accusing him of compromising too easily on key spending fights, advancing Republican-led funding bills, and failing to aggressively fight for progressive federal priorities. Hahahaha! Even in San Francisco, hatred for Israel (and Jews) trumps gay rights, pederasty and childhood castration advocates

Humiliation for would-be Pelosi successor Scott Wiener as he’s chased from SF Trans March

Progressive congressional candidate Scott Wiener can’t catch a break in super-woke San Francisco.

The leading candidate to win Nancy Pelosi’s seat in Congress was chased away from the city’s Pride March on Friday by an angry mob — a day after footage surfaced of pro-Palestinian agitator berating him inside a restaurant.

As the clip continues, agitators are seen surrounding Wiener — with one sticking a middle finger in his face as he avoids engaging with the crowd.

The person shouted that Wiener “stopped being queer the moment he started supporting Israel.”

Wiener, who is Jewish, previously stopped short of calling Israel’s actions in Gaza a “genocide,” but changed course [groveled] in January after refusing to call out Israel during a debate.

For those of you who saw the debate clip from last week, I want to clarify that I do believe Israel has committed genocide in Gaza,” Wiener said at the time. “To me the Israeli government has tried to destroy Gaza and to push Palestinians out. And that qualifies as genocide.”

These anti-Israel hate mobs aren’t really concerned about genocide, or we’d have heard them condemn the ongoing, systematic genocide and enforced conversion of Christians in Africa and Syria during the past two decades. It’s about the Jooos!, damn it, the Jooos! A lot of secular, liberal Jews ight want to pay attention.

But are the pro-Palestinian?

Fox Reporter Reveals How Haitians Scammed TPS Under Biden

Democrats are horrified that the Trump administration won its case at the U.S. Supreme Court to end temporary protected status (TPS) for Haitians and Syrians a decade or more after the original designation. But what they don't want us to know is just how many Haitians lied about being refugees to exploit the TPS status.

Ironically, the same leftists who were outraged when President Donald Trump called Haiti a "hellhole" or "s***hole" of a country are now equally outraged that Trump wants to send Haitians back to their country... which Democrats now say is inhumane and dangerous. As usual, Democrats' policies are not based on facts, but on their desire to transform America demographically, rig the Electoral College, and import cheap foreign labor. Speaking of which, the Biden-Harris administration incentivized mass fraud in the claiming of TPS.

On June 26, Center for Immigration Studies' Director of Policy Jessica Vaughan reacted to Reuters bewailing the horror of sending Haitians back to Haiti by pointing out that "a large share of Haitians (and Cubans & Venezuelans) who were allowed in under Biden did not come from their home countries but from 3rd countries like Chile, Brazil and Spain, where they had residency & work permits. So they can return there if they don't want to go home.”

Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin responded by sharing some photos and his experience at the border during the Biden administration, when he watched numerous Haitians tearing up their documents from Chile because they wanted to claim — falsely — that they were in urgent need of asylum in the U.S. from their home country. In reality, they'd been living and working in Chile and Brazil.

Melugin exclaimed, "The idea that all these Haitians came directly from Haiti after an earthquake or assassination is false. Many of them were living happily and safely for years in South America until Biden’s open border policies became too attractive to pass up. Others also flew into the US via Biden’s CHNV mass parole program which was supposed to be for only 2 year humanitarian parole grants. Of course, most never left."

And just in case anyone questioned his ability to interview so many Haitians, Melugin confirmed that he is fluent in Spanish, and that many of the Haitians were as well, because they had been living in Chile for so long.

Summary:

Our American journey and our success would simply not be possible without the generations of immigrants who have come to our shores from every corner of the globe. It

America is a nation of immigrants. Our American journey and our success would simply not be possible without the generations of immigrants who have come to our shores from every corner of the globe. It is helpful to take a moment to reflect on the important contributions by the generations of immigrants who have helped us build our economy, and made America the economic engine of the world.

How do immigrants strengthen the U.S. economy? Below is our top 10 list for ways immigrants help to grow the American economy.

  1. Immigrants start businesses. According to the Small Business Administration, immigrants are 30 percent more likely to start a business in the United States than non-immigrants, and 18 percent of all small business owners in the United States are immigrants.

  2. Immigrant-owned businesses create jobs for American workers. According to the Fiscal Policy Institute, small businesses owned by immigrants employed an estimated 4.7 million people in 2007, and according to the latest estimates, these small businesses generated more than $776 billion annually.

  3. Immigrants are also more likely to create their own jobs. According the U.S. Department of Labor, 7.5 percent of the foreign born are self-employed compared to 6.6 percent among the native-born.

  4. Immigrants develop cutting-edge technologies and companies.  According to the National Venture Capital Association, immigrants have started 25 percent of public U.S. companies that were backed by venture capital investors. This list includes Google, eBay, Yahoo!, Sun Microsystems, and Intel.

  5. Immigrants are our engineers, scientists, and innovators. According to the Census Bureau, despite making up only 16 percent of the resident population holding a bachelor’s degree or higher, immigrants represent 33 percent of engineers, 27 percent of mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientist, and 24 percent of physical scientists. Additionally, according to the Partnership for a New American Economy, in 2011, foreign-born inventors were credited with contributing to more than 75 percent of patents issued to the top 10 patent-producing universities.

  6. Immigration boosts earnings for American workers. Increased immigration to the United States has increased the earnings of Americans with more than a high school degree. Between 1990 and 2004, increased immigration was correlated with increasing earnings of Americans by 0.7 percent and is expected to contribute to an increase of 1.8 percent over the long-term, according to a study by the University of California at Davis.

  7. Immigrants boost demand for local consumer goods. The Immigration Policy Center estimates that the purchasing power of Latinos and Asians, many of whom are immigrants, alone will reach $1.5 trillion and $775 billion, respectively, by 2015.

  8. Immigration reform legislation like the DREAM Act reduces the deficit.  According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, under the 2010 House-passed version of the DREAM Act, the federal deficit would be reduced by $2.2 billion over ten years because of increased tax revenues.

  9. Comprehensive immigration reform would create jobs. Comprehensive immigration reform could support and create up to 900,000 new jobs within three years of reform from the increase in consumer spending, according to the Center for American Progress.

  10. Comprehensive immigration reform would increase America’s GDP.The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that even under low investment assumptions, comprehensive immigration reform would increase GDP by between 0.8 percent and 1.3 percent from 2012 to 2016.

As a nation of immigrants, we must remember that generations of immigrants have helped lay the railroads and build our cities, pioneer new industries and fuel our Information Age, from Google to the iPhone.  As President Obama said at a naturalization ceremony held at the White House last week:

The lesson of these 236 years is clear – immigration makes America stronger.  Immigration makes us more prosperous. And immigration positions America to lead in the 21st century.  And these young men and women are testaments to that. No other nation in the world welcomes so many new arrivals.  No other nation constantly renews itself, refreshes itself with the hopes, and the drive, and the optimism, and the dynamism of each new generation of immigrants. You are all one of the reasons that America is exceptional. You’re one of the reasons why, even after two centuries, America is always young, always looking to the future, always confident that our greatest days are still to come.

We celebrate the contributions of all Americans to building our nation and its economy, including the generations of immigrants.

I was going to mention this last week, but I forgot: Alzheimer's and the amyloid plaques hypothesis

I coulda been president. wait, what?

In fact, the debate over whether amyloid plaques are the cause or a symptom of Alzheimer’s has been going on for decades, and I've posted on it a number of times, but this link appeared on InstaPundit today, so I thought I’d repost it, if for no other reason than its tale of the scientific establishment’s suppression of alternative and contradictory theories is very much akin to its treatment of global warming skeptics and Wuhan Flu critics. “Trust the science”? Not hardly; not as it’s conducted and reported today.

The maddening saga of how an Alzheimer’s ‘cabal’ thwarted progress toward a cure for decades

In the 30 years that biomedical researchers have worked determinedly to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, their counterparts have developed drugs that helped cut deaths from cardiovascular disease by more than half, and cancer drugs able to eliminate tumors that had been incurable. But for Alzheimer’s, not only is there no cure, there is not even a disease-slowing treatment.

The brain, Alzheimer’s researchers patiently explain, is hard — harder than the heart, harder even than cancer. While that may be true, it is increasingly apparent that there is another, more disturbing reason for the tragic lack of progress: The most influential researchers have long believed so dogmatically in one theory of Alzheimer’s that they systematically thwarted alternative approaches. Several scientists described those who controlled the Alzheimer’s agenda as “a cabal.”

In more than two dozen interviews, scientists whose ideas fell outside the dogma recounted how, for decades, believers in the dominant hypothesis suppressed research on alternative ideas: They influenced what studies got published in top journals, which scientists got funded, who got tenure, and who got speaking slots at reputation-buffing scientific conferences.

This stifling of competing ideas, say a growing number of scholars, is a big reason why there is no treatment for Alzheimer’s. (The four approved drugs have no effect on the disease, providing only a temporary memory boost.)

The scientists described the frustrating, even career-ending, obstacles that they confronted in pursuing their research. A top journal told one that it would not publish her paper because others hadn’t. Another got whispered advice to at least pretend that the research for which she was seeking funding was related to the leading idea — that a protein fragment called beta-amyloid accumulates in the brain, creating neuron-killing clumps that are both the cause of Alzheimer’s and the key to treating it. Others could not get speaking slots at important meetings, a key showcase for research results. Several who tried to start companies to develop Alzheimer’s cures were told again and again by venture capital firms and major biopharma companies that they would back only an amyloid approach.

“The amyloid hypothesis has been one of the most tragic stories [in] disease research,” said neurobiologist Rachael Neve of Massachusetts General Hospital.
