To reply to reader Mikki’s comment that one can fry an egg on the sidewalk during hot summer days in Arizona, I uploaded this picture of Juneau in the winter to ChatGPD with the following instructions:

“place a fur-clad Eskimo family on the sidewalk here, circled around small campfire and frying eggs in a pan on the fire. (the idea being, it's not just Arizona during a heatwave where you can fry eggs on the sidewalk)”

This is the response I got from ChatGPD’s struggle session algorithm children:

“We’re so sorry, but the prompt may violate our content policies. If you think we got it wrong, please retry or edit your prompt.”

I try not to argue with idiots, computerized or otherwise, so I simply opened Grok and submitted the identical request. In less than a second, it produced this:

Queried on the different results, ChatGPD responded that the trigger word was “eskimo”:

"Eskimo" is considered outdated or offensive by many Inuit and Yupik people, although not universally. Some Alaska Native groups still use it, while many Inuit strongly prefer "Inuit."

Instead of

“I'd write something like”

I wouldn’t know a Yupik if he scalped me, but … sure, okay.

On the other hand, yesterday, ChatGPD had no problem with a request to show an “Eskimo” (not an “Inuit”, not a “Yupik”, whatever that is), standing outside his air conditioned igloo, so go figure — I can’t.

North Carolina man armed with flamethrowers, crossbows, 500 rounds arrested outside church: police

A North Carolina man was arrested outside a church armed with crossbows, two flamethrowers and 500 rounds of ammunition, police said.

The High Point Police Department wrote in a news release that someone called 911 on Sunday to report an "armed person sitting in the parking lot" of Wesley Memorial Church in High Point, North Carolina.

The caller said the man, William S. Milliken III, 44, was armed with a gun and wearing camouflage.

An off-duty officer at the church spotted the suspect immediately and, with help from officers who arrived within minutes, took him into custody.

After Milliken was arrested, officers searched his truck and found two flamethrowers, two crossbows, over 500 rounds of ammunition, rolls of black duct tape, three knives, oxycodone pills and a carbon dioxide-powered launcher designed to resemble a handgun, police said.

According to WFMY, court documents also allege that the suspect had a notebook with addresses of churches, schools and public buildings, GPS coordinates, body armor, radios with police scanners, handcuff keys as well as an enlarged map of North Carolina.
