“Oops! Well, he sure fooled me!”

District Attorney George Gascon claims that, despite the man who just killed two cops already having two felony convictions, and despite the fact that he’d been arrested for (illegal, obviously) possession of a pistol and drugs, the probation sentence he received last year was appropriate “because he had no history of violence”.

“Look”, Gascon told FWIW, “not every armed drug dealer poses a genuine threat of violence. This guy was probably just waving it around for show — boasting, sort of. How could we know he might use it? I mean, he promised, man!””
