Three dead after wrong-way driver hits east-bound car on I-84
It happened “around 6 PM” near Sturbridge. I made a flying visit down to Riverside yesterday to be with brothers, Susie, and my miraculously discovered niece Candice Dixon, and headed back to Maine at 4 PM. Reaching New Haven, I made an impulsive decision to divert from my usual route: I-91 to I-84, and instead continued further east to I-395, then north to Worcester. On that original route, it is almost exactly two hours to Sturbridge from Riverside, and I would have been there at 6 PM.
I’m not saying that I would have been the victim of that (probably drunk) driver, but when I read of this just now, it did strike me that we often over-focus on some risks, and ignore the risks that we’ve grown accustomed to, like driving cars.
For instance, we’re far, far more likely to die driving to the airport than during the flight itself, but I, at least, always grip my armrest a little bit tightly during takeoff.
So it goes.
