Forced busing

All the Democratic candidates are for it, almost the entire country, black and white, opposes it.

What’s ironic is that, while the rationale for forced busing is that black children do better in schools when they’re surrounded by whites and Asians, black educators insist that black children learn best when they are taught by black instructors. Indeed, Connecticut has just enacted a law to place quotas on school systems to ensure a proper ratio of black teachers to black students. So how’s the NEA going to deal with a requirement that a majority of its members be fired and replaced by teachers of color?

My guess is that the problem lies in uneducated, 16-year-old unwed mothers trying to raise fellow children, and all the busing in the world isn’t going to address that.

Trump speaks to press for 2 hours - without notes, without a bib

I certainly hadn’t intended to spend nearly two hours early the morning watching two hours of Trump discussing international affairs, and I didn’t, but even though I skipped around a bit, to my surprise, I did see about an hour and a half of the press conference. What sucked me in was Trump’s performance: he was totally on top of every issue raised by reporters, answered every question knowledgeably and calmly, with no bombast, and even cracked a few jokes. Hell, he was even civil to Jim Accosta.

Democrats hold as an “accepted fact” that Trump is both senile and out of control, and have even brought in psychiatrists and mental illness “experts” to testify to that effect before Congress. It won’t happen, but it’s a shame the consumers of all that effort — this country’s voters — won’t see this lengthy session. I’d settle for a Republican congressman forcing one of those psychiatrist—professors to watch it and repeat her slanders.

New Listing on Dingletown

dingletown.jpg

A slow day for real estate transactions, but 85 Dingletown Road has been listed, for $4.750 million. Built in 2016 as a custom home, I assume the owners’ plans changed unexpectedly; because of something good, I hope.

In any event, the house is a refreshing change from the tedious, pseudo-Colonial spec houses usually put up in town, and though I don’t think I’d personally feel comfortable living here, that’s a judgement based entirely on viewing a few pictures, rather than actual experience. More sophisticated buyers’ who don’t bring home muddy dogs and shotguns — I’m told not everyone does — might very well feel at home.

Dingletown itself can be an annoying road, slow and twisty, but No. 85 is right across from Doubling, so there’s a straight shot to town.

As for price, who knows, these days? There’s a big inventory of unsold houses in this price range, but almost no high-end contemporaries, so this one may have that narrow market to itself, and that’s not a bad place to be.

Poll shows that youngest generation is growing intolerant of the LBGT movement

An alarming [sic] new statistic from the annual Accelerating Acceptance report finds that young Americans —  generally regarded as the most socially tolerant generation — are less comfortable with LGBTQ people than in previous years.

The survey, produced by the Harris Poll in partnership with Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), found that Americans aged 18 to 34 who say they are comfortable interacting with queer people fell from 53% in 2017 to 45% in 2018 — even among those whom the report considers “allies” to the LGBTQ community.

This was the only age group to show a decline in overall acceptance. Women had a sharper decline, falling from 64% to 52%, compared to the 5% decrease among men, from 40 to 35%.

Perhaps these kids, who have been force-fed a steady diet of queer acceptance, from transvestite strip teases for four-year-olds to boys using girls’ bathrooms to boys invading and taking over girl’s sports, have simply had enough, and maybe the adults insisting on this 24-hour program of indoctrination should ease off a bit.

Or not: the advocates seem to be adopting the tactic that the whipping will continue until morale improves.

GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis says it may have to do with the fact that younger people are interacting with more LGBTQ people than older generations — and things that they don’t fully understand could be bewildering for some of them.

“This newness they are experiencing could be leading to this erosion. It’s a newness that takes time for people to understand,” she says. “Our job is to educate about nonconformity.”

Toy Story 4 is out, and social critics see a lack of black characters. Why, this is wacist! At its worst!

Stella Duffy sparked debates about the new Pixar film when she criticised it for its lack of minority ethnic and disabled characters following last week's release.

But today Afua Adom, a journalist at Glam Africa Magazine, told Good Morning Britain today that the row had completely missed real issues facing minority ethnic and female actors in Hollywood.

'People have missed the point of Toy Story - it's a story about toys,' she said, adding: 'I think I saw a diverse range of characters - I saw a Martian, I saw a Mr Potato Head and I saw a dinosaur.'

But lawyer Shola Mos-Shogbamimu disagreed with her fellow guest, saying Pixar  'can do better' as she slammed people defending the film against criticism.

'It's diabolically ignorant of any parent or adult to miss the essence of the backlash Toy Story is receiving,' she said, adding: 'Entertainment must always have a moralistic value.'

She also slammed writers, accusing them of making Bo-Peep 'anti-feminist'.

'She’s still going to fall in love, she’s still going to have the happily ever after, that’s not feminism! It’s a woman who kicks off her skirt to reveal bloomers.'

H.L. Menken’s definition of Puritanism is just as apt for liberalism: “The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.” Come to think of it, I believe that the city of San Francisco banned Happy Meals some years ago.
