/28 Turner Drive, $5.495 million. A very good agent had this listing for a year when it was priced at $6.780 and declining prices thereafter, then lost it to another agent, who had it sold in 77 days. Not to take anything away from that second agent, who is also able and talented, but I suspect his success had more to do with the nefarious workings of a band of Chinese laboratory bandits in Wuhan than any new marketing plan.
One ugly house, by the way, but these days, no one seems to care.
I don't know how long this will last, but it's nice for now
/80 Round Hill Road, has sold for $5.920 million after 40 days on the market. A totally renovated 1913 classic, located at the foot of Round Hill, it had everything going for it, but pre-Covid, I doubt it could have found a buyer so quickly.
Daring, bold Lamont saves Connecticut from the Black Plague
/Ned dons his dress mess
Three Norwalk restaurants shut down for serving nachos and salsa instead of a full, wholesome meal.
“I’m just following the science”, Lamont told FWIW in explaining his executive order that liquor can only be served with a full meal, “and it’s an undisputed, hard scientific fact, not some dictatorial fiat I’ve pulled from my butt, that neither nachos nor pretzels offer any protection against COVID-19, whereas a prime rib and potato served with beer does.
“I’m thinking”, he conceded, “of allowing a polenta substitute for that potato, and maybe allowing a no-fat ice cream for a dessert, but I won’t know that until I wake up tomorrow morning.” Lamont was adamant, however, that he would not relax his mandate that diners wear face masks while eating: “I mean, it just looks hilarious, doesn’t it? Why should I deny myself that pleasure? Hee hee hee hee – but anyway, trust me on this, we’re talking science here.”
The GHS arena is coming
/New bleachers, elevators, changing rooms (God forbid our student-athletes have to walk 300 yards to the existing ones), jumbotron, and limousine parking for the coaches. Initial cost, $2.5 million for stage one, $25 million for the final product?
In the meantime, our middle schools are falling apart. To the best of my knowledge, GHS has produced two NFL players in 40 years, Steve Young and Johnny Sullivan; will this new boondoggle double the yield? Do we care?
Poor bastard, but at least he doesn't live in Greenwich

Last man left in California gets hit with $140 billion tax bill
LOS ANGELES, CA—With high taxes, low electricity, and everything on fire, people continue to leave California. One man, Warren Stanley, was determined to stay, though. “I just enjoy the climate,” he explained. But he got a surprise this morning when he received a tax bill in the mail for $140 billion.
“As the last person remaining in California,” stated the letter from California Governor Gavin Newsom (who now works remotely from income tax-free Florida), “you’re going to have to pay all the taxes. Thanks for choosing our great state!”
“Aw, man,” Stanley whined. “I knew I hadn’t seen my neighbors in a while, but I didn’t think I was the last.” Stanley says he doesn’t think he’ll be able to pay the tax bill, as most of his income goes to paying his rent. If he doesn’t pay it, though, he’ll be arrested for tax evasion -- though it will take a while for the police to get him since they all live out of state.
Stanley is currently working on negotiating some sort of payment plan. His main question was whether, if he paid his taxes, the state would be able to keep the electricity on continuously, but the answer he got was “probably not.”
Happy New Year!
/It’s Rosh Hashanah, and I wish all the blessings of the new year to my Jewish friends.
Speaking of Jewish friends, the late Howard Fast, a dyed-in-the-wool (millionaire) commie who was still a wonderful man and a close pal, told me this tale:
A Jewish girl was packing for the weekend when one of her gentile sorority sisters asked where she was going.
“Home for the weekend to celebrate Rosh Hashanah with my family”.
“Really? And how do you do that?”
“We attend synagogue, pray, then enjoy a wonderful meal and blow the shofar”.
(Patting her friend’s wrist): “Oh, you Jews are so good to your help.”
It's not huge, but every little bit and insult helps
/Beautiful downtown Newark
Thank you, New Jersey: Gov and his fellow Democrats hike “millionaire’s tax” from 9% to 10.75%
1990 saw the imposition of an income tax in Connecticut for the first time in our history. Absent that, your home’s value would be soaring now.
