Sweden Sends Them Back

John Hinderaker: Sweden pursued a disastrous immigration policy for some years, but now voters have changed their minds. The Telegraph headlines: “How Sweden is turning back the clock on years of mass migration.”

Repatriation payments form part of a hardline immigration policy overhaul driven by Sweden’s coalition government, which is propped up by the hard-Right Sweden Democrats (SD).

Sweden offers 600,000 Swedish kronor (£45,900) to any migrants willing to give up their residency permit.

This is the voluntary “remigration” policy that is being pursued by, among others, the promoters of the Save Europe Act. This chart tells the story:

In 2015 Sweden, with a population of less than 11 million, took in an astonishing 163,000 refugees. That would be like the U.S. taking in around 4.7 million–even worse than Biden’s annual performance, in other words, although Biden kept it up for four years, not one.
That turned out to be a horrific mistake, which is now being rectified due largely to the efforts of Sweden’s second most popular party, the Sweden Democrats. Of course, no newspaper anywhere in the world, it seems, can give a “far right” party credit for being correct:

Oh, please.

…anti-migrant campaign has helped it become Sweden’s second-largest, and it is expected to have its best results yet on Sunday.
Led by the charismatic Jimmie Åkesson, the party claims untethered migration has increased crime levels and has created ethnic enclaves of people who do not align with Swedish values.

Given what we spend on welfare, medical care and education costs for our Biden invitees, the enormous cost of deporting those who commit additional crimes here while visiting: $150,000 to $600,000, plus the cost of incarceration after conviction, $61,250 per deportee, while ridiculously too generous, would still be cost effective. Unfortunately, the Democrats have announced that they’ll be reopening the border just as soon as they regain power and will resume rebuilding their base.

So there’s that. Still, might be worth considering.
