Highest and best on the Cos Cob border

27 Sachem Lane, $2.195 million, being offered “as is”, went to bids immediately upon being listed and is now reported pending. The pictures have been pulled, but they were mostly just AI generated photos, and two can play at that game. Here’s its master bath — its easy to see why they didn’t want it on the net any longer than necessary :

Interesting article.

This picture of Alfa Romeo’s new “shooting brake” stirred up a memory of a similar car I saw in Greenwich years ago, so I asked Google’s AI:

FAI IN MODO CHE SIA COSÌ: Alfa Romeo’s New Giulia Shooting Brake Looks Too Good to Be True. “If there is one thing that Alfa can take away from this render, it’s that the design of the Cuorerosso Concept will work on a shooting brake. The language translates nicely into this kind of body style. It still looks sleek; it still looks like an Alfa, and it’s reminiscent of one of my personal favorite Alfa Romeos of all time, the Brera.”

Q: back in, around, 1968, when I was 12, a family guest took me to visit the local Greenwich CT Ferrari dealership, where I saw a gold Ferrari "station wagon", that had 4 bucket seats: 2 in front, 2 in the rear, a rear hatch and, maybe (it was a long time ago) some sort of load platform behind the seats. I never saw it on the road after that visit and never read of it. Can you find any details on the model?

AI Mode reply:

You have an incredible memory! What you saw as a 12-year-old was not a dream or a mirage—it was a legendary, one-of-a-kind automotive creation known as the 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Shooting Brake by Vignale. [1]

Because it was a single, bespoke vehicle that largely vanished into private collections, it makes perfect sense that you never saw it on the road again. [1]

The Story Behind the Gold Wagon

Born in Greenwich, Connecticut

The car began its life as a standard, red Ferrari 330 GT Series II coupe, imported from Italy directly to Luigi Chinetti Motors on West Putnam Avenue in Greenwich, Connecticut (America’s very first Ferrari dealership). [1, 2]

By 1967, the car had returned to the dealership. Luigi Chinetti Jr. (nicknamed "Coco") decided to use the car to experiment with a high-end, practical sports car concept. He collaborated with famous American commercial illustrator Bob Peak (known for designing iconic movie posters like West Side Story) to design a "shooting brake" body. [1, 2]

The Vignale Transformation

Chinetti shipped the car to Turin, Italy, where the legendary coachbuilder Carrozzeria Alfredo Vignale completely stripped down the original bodywork. Vignale built a radical, angular new body featuring: [1]

  • 4 Individual Bucket Seats: Exactly as you remembered, configured in a 2+2 layout. [1, 2]

  • The Rear Hatch & Load Platform: The roofline was extended straight back to form a wagon silhouette with a functional rear hatch window that popped up to access a spacious luggage deck. [1]

  • The Metallic Gold Accent: When it debuted at the 1968 Turin Motor Show, it was painted a dark metallic green with a distinctive metallic gold roof and side panels. Over the years, the car was fully restored and repainted in a striking champagne bronze/rose gold color, which matches your memory of a "gold wagon" perfectly. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Where It Went Next

This vehicle was historically significant as it was the very last Ferrari ever built by Vignale, as Alfredo Vignale passed away shortly after its completion. [1]

After turning heads at the Italian auto show in 1968, the car was sent right back home to Chinetti Motors in Greenwich. Coco Chinetti used it as his personal car for a few years, which is likely exactly when you crossed paths with it. [1, 2]

It eventually entered the collector circuit, moving between the U.S. and Europe. In the 2010s, it belonged to famous British musician and car enthusiast Jay Kay (frontman of Jamiroquai). It last sold at an RM Sotheby’s Auction for $313,000, and it remains a highly celebrated piece of Ferrari history. [1, 2]

Our anonymous commenter learns bad news

Making a quick buck — or three — up in the north country

8 Old Round Hill Lane was purchased out of foreclosure for $8 million back in April, spruced up, and put back on the market for $16.850 million; it’s pending after 42 days.

Per GMLS rules, most of the pictures have been yanked from the internet, but we’ve been posting on the travails of this house for over a decade, so you should be able to find what it looked like as it slowly deteriorated. The kitchen was remodeled, and presumably the mold infection from broken pipes remediated, and the dust bunnies along with any remaining whiskey bottles swept out from under the beds. Presto! $8 million; wham, bam, and thank you ma’am.

Idiot class

vote for the colonel!

A Back Country resident and Greenwich Indivisible member shares her weighty thoughts on the coming election; thoughtful, free from hyperbole, cogent. Or perhaps not.

If I were a Republican, I would refuse to stand by while my party abandons everything it once stood for. What outrages me most is the deafening silence of Republican leaders who refuse to confront what their party has become.

What happened to fiscal responsibility? Look at the enormous deficits, mounting debt, and ridiculous spending on vanity projects. Republicans championed limited government, yet Washington pressures universities and law firms and takes stakes in private companies. What happened to defending the Constitution and individual rights? The party of family values excuses allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, extramarital affairs, and legal settlements. And what happened to integrity when the presidency is exploited for personal enrichment, grift, and corruption?

For much of my life, I trusted that presidents, regardless of party, wanted what was best for our country. I respected political differences.

But this is different. This is no longer about policy. It is about morality and the rule of law.

Executive power is abused. Corruption goes unchecked. Reckless decisions on tariffs and war threaten our economy and security. Yet silence.

Republicans in Congress and candidates running for office cannot have it both ways. They cannot remain silent as our democracy is eroded, make excuses for what is happening, then distance themselves when politically convenient. If they refuse to denounce abuses of power and attacks on democratic institutions, they are complicit. Silence is cowardice, not principle.

There is no hiding behind the label “sane Republican” anymore. You cannot claim to stand apart from the degradation of our country while helping to sustain it. Voters deserve to know where every candidate stands.

Silence is complicity.

The writer is, of course, a member of the Invisible Ladies of Greenwich. She also is a (western) Back Country resident who paid $1 million for land a few years ago and, assuming the $3.5 million mortgage that’s on record went towards its construction, has built a large mansion on its acres. More power to her, and congratulations on her success, but Democrat multi-millionaires’ continued allegiance to a party determined to destroy them is … puzzling. I mean, you’d have to be a moron to do that, right?

UPDATE:

Or, put anotheter way,

Dems Don’t Get Buyer’s Remorse Because They’re Too Stupid to Know What They’re Buying. “While I am loath to jump on board the ‘blame social media for all of society’s ills’ bandwagon, I will say that it has made the already slow thinking of the Democratic base slow to an almost imperceptible crawl.”

And to paraphrase Lenin: “The capitalists will give us the ropes with which we will hang them.”

I lived in East Holden, Maine back in the early 80's; very nice people, but I suspect that this NYC couple would have had a difficult time there back then and, apparently, that hasn’t changed

I’m not saying their alleged cruel treatment by fellow construction workers was right; it wasn’t, and shouldn’t have happened, but honey, what were you thinking?

Gay couple harassed while working for solar panel company in Maine, lawsuit says

Wilmer Muchacho, 46, and Jose Cordero, 30, a married couple from New York City, started working in Holden as solar panel installers for Centre Electric around May 2023. The federal lawsuit says the Minnesota company discriminated against the couple before ultimately firing them.

The lawsuit, filed Oct. 14, in U.S. District Court of Maine in Bangor, alleges Centre Electric violated the Maine Human Rights Act, the federal Civil Rights Act and the Maine Whistleblowers’ Protection Act, as well as retaliated against the couple for reporting illegal conduct.

About four months after the couple started working in Holden, their coworkers started harassing them for being married, the lawsuit said. The coworkers called them slurs for gay men and referred to them as sexually transmitted diseases.

Muchacho and Cordero reported the harassment to their supervisor and they were transferred to another work site in Mattawamkeag. Coworkers at the new location also harassed the couple about their relationship, the lawsuit said. Coworkers allegedly threw food at the couple.

Centre Electric took no additional action to stop the harassment, according to the lawsuit. The company started retaliating against the men.

Other employees were allowed to go to their car to warm up on breaks, allowed meal and bathroom breaks and were given weekend work, the lawsuit said. It said the couple were denied all of those opportunities.

Muchacho and Cordero were terminated from Centre Electric in February 2024, for what the company said was tardiness and disrespectful behavior. But, they were not given any warnings for the supposed issues before they were fired, the lawsuit said.

(To be fair, the gentlemen did make an effort to fit in)

Surprisingly, this latest story of lunacy from the Nutmeg State does NOT include Chris Murphy — yet

Holy Ratio, Batman! CT State Senator Pushing COVID Vax Gets Buried Under a Mountain of Mockery

Grateful Calvin:

When we see some poor rando on X still talking about masks and the mRNA vax in 2026, we tend to feel bad for them (after we're finished laughing at them trying to lecture normal, sane people, that is). These are broken people, forever condemned to a life of abject misery.

That's just sad.

But when it is an American elected official who is attempting to push the COVID fear porn, that's something else entirely.

That calls for an EPIC dragging.

Connecticut State Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff found this out the hard way yesterday when he posted a picture of himself receiving yet ANOTHER booster for a mild flu. He also smeared RFK Jr. and trotted out the Left's favorite non-word, "misinformation," while doing so.

To say that Duff was ratioed into oblivion doesn't even begin to describe the monumental beatdown X users administered to him for this tired, expired propaganda.

It was so delicious (and still ongoing) that we couldn't possibly share all the humiliation X served up. But we'll include as many of our favorites as we can.

[I’m including just one — many more at the link — Ed]

'HOW IS THIS REAL'!? Irish Gov't Has a Warning for Grandparents Who Want to Hug Their Grandkids

Twitchy:

Before we get into the public service announcement airing in Ireland which is supported by the government, here's a brief crime update about assaults and sexual offenses in that country:

However, some crime trends are upwards with the number of serious assaults in the Republic increasing over the past decade by 85% to 5,865 in 2024 — the fifth highest rate in the EU.

Like most countries in the EU, Ireland has also experienced a sharp rise in sexual offences, including rape, over the past decade, with numbers more than doubling.

The number of rapes reported in the Republic jumped from 480 in 2014 to 1,040 ten years later.

Part of the problem appears to be... grandparents who want to hug their grandkids without first getting consent.

No, seriously:
